A few people have asked me what I think about the licensing review involving The Arena at Beach Street, so here it is.

Beach Street has become a genuine destination for Felixstowe. It houses independent businesses, creates local jobs and brings people into a seaside town where hospitality businesses already have the huge challenge of seasonality.

While researching the local food market ahead of launching MunchMob, we found just how significant the site is — roughly 1 in 8 of Felixstowe’s registered food & drink outlets are at Beach Street.

That’s an incredible concentration of independent hospitality businesses on one site.

Of course genuine licensing concerns should be addressed — but the wider economic contribution of Beach Street deserves to be part of that conversation too.

Beach Street’s premises licence is being reviewed following a noise complaint. We need everyone who values what we bring to Felixstowe to share their experience with the council.

We respect our neighbours and take noise concerns seriously. But we strongly challenge any suggestion that Beach Street is a constant source of late-night disturbance.

Here’s the context:

▪️ Our larger events are occasional, with most starting around 1–2pm.
▪️ Several finish by 7.30–8pm. Only a handful each year run until 10–10.30pm.
▪️ Music and entertainment have been an established part of Beach Street’s calendar for years.
▪️ We’ve met with residents, engaged with the council and carried out sound checks to help address concerns.

The full picture matters. Beach Street supports independent businesses, local jobs, performers and traders. It brings families together, attracts visitors and gives people a reason to spend time on Felixstowe’s seafront.

Oh?! They failed to include the alleged disturbance was only on 4 or 5 occasions on a Saturday afternoon from June to August & between the hours of 3pm & the latest was 9pm

Nothing after that or even on a regular basis ….
