Happy 24th Birthday to our friends over at King's of Felixstowe 🎉
🎉 Happy 24th birthday to us, as on this day in 2002 King's was established! 🎉
We have been Key Cutters, Engravers, Printers, Watch Repairers and Shoe Repairers for 24 years. Danny's knowledge in the trade goes back further to when he was about 18, spending time at his friend's dad's shop.
We spotted a run down little Shoe Repairers in Felixstowe Road Ipswich that was in a real sorry state. But we saw potential in it and knew it was a great starting point for our own business. The current owner Tony had a shop in another town and had bought this for his son to run, but he wasn't interested in it.
Danny worked hard and following the success of the business it led onto expanding and King's of Felixstowe opened in 2008. But our Ipswich shop became too small and cramped and we needed to expand. We moved in 2011 to a bigger and brighter shop then again in 2021 to a better one in a busier location on Nacton Road.
When we first started out, we used to go to Shoe Repair, Key Cutting and Engraving Conventions. Travelling to see what was new and meet people in the same trade from other towns. We became friends and were part of online forums and now follow each other on social media. It has been great over the years to help each other out, confer tips, review machines and share product ideas. As we do with other simiar shops when we're out and about around the country when we pop in if in the area. We are a friendly caring sharing bunch!
And now we travel more for our retail side including twice a year to a Trade Fair in Birmingham. We see just about everything there including plenty of jewellery, gifts and collectables. We always look for items that are different, new things connected to our trade that others might not have, and also seaside related products which always sell well. This also means we can be competitively priced on everything we sell.
So we are proud of what we have achieved as a genuine, independent, family-owned and family-run business. We have a long-standing friendly and helpful team of four who all live locally and are all hands on. Anyway you know what we do and we work hard to do it well. Both our shops are still busy and still going strong so we thank all our customers for continuing to support us.
Also Happy 27th Birthday today to our friends at Martin Bott Bookdealers at Treasure Chest books!
Originally in Bolton they moved to Felixstowe 12 years ago with thousands of books. A big task especially moving house as well, but you can't run a business by living several counties away. Well done Helen and Martin, keep up the good work. Another great business in Felixstowe run by a lovely couple and their team!
Love Danny, wife Teresa, brother-in-law Tony and friend Richard.
