🍺 Arise Sir Kevin has arrived!

Some beers are chosen after carefully reviewing tasting notes and hours of deliberation...
..and some are chosen because the landlord couldn't resist seeing his own name on the pump clip! 😄

If you've been keeping an eye on our "What's On Next" board over the past week, you'll probably have spotted the pump clip and had a chuckle. There was only ever one person who was going to order a beer called Arise Sir Kevin... 😄

Thankfully, it's not just a great name. This refreshing pale ale from Front Row Brewing in Cheshire is brewed as a tribute to rugby league legend Sir Kevin Sinfield and his incredible support of the Motor Neurone Disease community.

Even better, £7 from every firkin sold is donated directly to the MND charity, so every pint helps support a worthwhile cause.

It's a beer that's much more familiar in the rugby heartlands of the North than it is here on the South Coast, and we're rather pleased to have it on the bar.

So whether you're here for the name, the cause, or simply a cracking pint of pale ale, Arise Sir Kevin is now pouring at the Golden Bowler 🍻

This week our whisky journey takes us north to the windswept Orkney Islands and one of Scotland's most northerly distilleries.

🏆 Quiz Night Results! 🧠🍻

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Whose Round Is It? yesterday evening.

With England's World Cup Semi-Final taking place at the same time, we knew it might be a quieter night than usual, but those who came along made up for it with plenty of laughs, friendly rivalry and another cracking quiz.

It couldn't have been much closer at the top of the leaderboard...

🥉 The Alcovers – 51 points

A special mention has to go to Caroline, who competed as a team of one after her usual teammate decided the football was calling! To finish second, just one point off the top spot, is a fantastic achievement. Very well played! 👏

And as always, our quiz did more than just test the grey matter. Thanks to everyone's generosity – including a couple of teams who kindly donated their prize money back – we raised a fantastic £41.50 for Dementia Friendly Hampshire. Thank you all for your continued support of this wonderful local charity. 💙

Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to everyone who spent their Wednesday evening with us.

We'll do it all again in two weeks' time!

Today is St Swithin's Day, when folklore tells us that whatever the weather does today, it'll keep it up for the next 40 days and 40 nights!

It's a big night on Wednesday!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

This Wednesday sees England take on Argentina in the World Cup Semi-Final. Whatever your sporting persuasion, it's a fantastic achievement to see England's National team reach the last four, and we'll certainly be wishing them every success.

Here at the Golden Bowler, though, it'll be business as usual with Who's Round Is It? from 8.30pm.

We know not everyone is following the football, and we wouldn't want to let down the teams who've booked in for an evening of laughs, friendly rivalry and a good old-fashioned pub quiz.

As a result, we do have a few tables available this week. So, if you haven't made plans yet, or if you'd rather spend the evening testing your general knowledge than watching the football, we'd love to see you.

From Stubbington to... Everywhere!

One of the nicest things we've ever started at the Golden Bowler has been our Team GB Tees.

Not because of the T-shirts themselves...
..but because of what so many of you have done with them.

You've packed them in your suitcases, remembered to pull them on at just the right moment, and sent us photos from some wonderful places.

We've received pictures from Ireland, Portugal, the Norwegian Fjords, Bermuda and plenty of other destinations over the past year. Every one of them makes us smile.

It's a lovely reminder that, even when you're enjoying a well-earned holiday, the Golden Bowler has travelled a little way with you.

So this post is simply a thank you.
