🥃 WOW!! Whisky of the Week 🥃

Not every Whisky of the Week has to be a new discovery. Sometimes it's about taking a fresh look at an old favourite...

This week, the spotlight falls on a familiar face on our single malt shelf: Glenmorangie The Original, 12 Year Old.

Made in the Highland town of Tain, Glenmorangie has become one of the best-known names in Scotch whisky - and there's a very good reason for that. Its elegant, fruity style has made it a favourite with whisky drinkers for generations and a wonderful introduction for anyone beginning their own whisky journey.

Glenmorangie's famously tall copper stills help create its light and delicate spirit, which is then matured for 12 years in bourbon casks, allowing its smooth and creamy character to develop.

Expect a lovely burst of citrus and ripe peach, softened by creamy vanilla and honey, before floral fruitiness gives way to a lingering finish with hints of almond, coconut and maple sweetness. Smooth, elegant and wonderfully approachable, this is a whisky that proves that being a familiar favourite doesn't make it any less worthy of a closer look.

Our Whisky of the Week isn't about special offers – it's about discovery.

And sometimes, discovery means looking again at a bottle that's been there all along.

We have something very special on the real ale pumps today…

Fresh from Newtown Brewery in Gosport - just 5 miles from our cellar - we are delighted to welcome the long-awaited GOSPORT ROYAL to the Golden Bowler!

Brewed by Clive at his nano-brewery in Victoria Street, in the historic Newtown area of Gosport, this award-winning beer comes from a part of town with a long and proud brewing history.

And it’s not just any award-winner - Gosport Royal recently won Beer of the Festival at the 2026 Wi******er Beer & Cider Festival! 🏆

Newtown Brewery is officially Gosport’s oldest and smallest brewery, and we’re rather chuffed to have one of their beers pouring here on our hand pumps. Small brewery… big reputation! 🍻

If Clive’s previous brews are anything to go by, don’t hang about… this one won’t be here for long!

Well, our quiz nights just keep getting better! 🍻🧠

Last night we welcomed an amazing 22 teams for another cracking night of questions, head-scratching and friendly competition.

With some new faces joining us, the introduction of Ditloids, and – rather refreshingly – no tie-breaks needed, it was a closely fought contest from start to finish!

🥉 Third Place: Quiz Quad

Congratulations to all our winning teams – and thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a brilliant night. The competition may be getting fiercer, but thankfully the laughs are still flowing too!

We're also delighted to add £43.50 to the pot for Dementia Friendly Hampshire 💙 - our chosen charity – thank you to everyone who helps us raise such valuable funds while having a good night out.

Whose Round Is It? is taking a little break, so our next quiz night will be Wednesday 23rd September. Plenty of time to brush up on your general knowledge... and perhaps your Ditloids too! 😉

Hop & Vine Saturday 🍺🍷☀️

The sun is shining, Summer in Lee is happening this weekend, and it feels like the perfect excuse to make a little detour! 😎

If you’re heading to the festival, why not drop in on your way for a couple of drinks and get yourself in the mood? Our Hop & Vine is on all day too — a pint of real ale and a medium glass of house wine for just £10.20.

What a fantastic Bingo Night! 🎉

Another full night on Wednesday for an evening of laughs, friendly competition and plenty of lucky numbers.

For the second week running we had an incredible 15 winners on the night, including two double winners and another three-way split to keep us on our toes!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a friendly atmosphere. It's evenings like these that remind us what a great community we have here at the Golden Bowler.

We're already filling up for the next Bingo Night, so if you're thinking of joining us, don't leave it too long! We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

🥃 WOW!! Whisky of the Week

This week we're revisiting a familiar name, but with a rather different story...

Our WOW this week is Tamnavulin Double Cask, a Speyside single malt from a distillery tucked away in the heart of Speyside, on the banks of the River Livet.

Tamnavulin was established in 1966, and its name comes from the Gaelic Tom na Muilinn, meaning "hill of the mill". Surrounded by the beautiful Speyside landscape and fed by pure spring water, the distillery produces a range of approachable, characterful single malts.

And this expression has an interesting trick up its sleeve...

🥃 Double Cask is initially matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks before being finished in seasoned Sherry casks, bringing together the sweetness of bourbon oak with the richer, warming character of sherry.

The result is a smooth and mellow dram with fresh apple, pear and peach, followed by honey, toffee and creamy vanilla, before a gently spiced, sweet finish.

It's a lovely example of how two different cask influences can work together to create something greater than the sum of their parts.

And yes... we've had Tamnavulin on the WOW shelf before — but this is a completely different expression. That's rather the fun of this whisky journey; there's always another bottle, another cask and another story to discover.
