September in the hedgerows. The landscape around Wild Things is changing quickly now — blackberries, crab apples, rosehips and the last of the late-summer abundance, including some beautiful chicken of the woods (for our personal stash!).
Chicken of the Woods is one of the most delicious and prolific wild mushrooms we find, but as some people don’t tolerate it well, sadly it’s not one we feel comfortable putting on the menu. We’re out gathering, tasting and preserving, with one eye on the opening menus and the colder months ahead. Wild ingredients are part of how we cook here — rooted in the landscape around us, and in the seasons as they change.

The Burrow has landed.

A new private space at Wild Things, clad in and made for long lunches, suppers, celebrations, workshops and gatherings.

Group bookings opening soon.

The build is moving on quickly now.

This week the less glamorous but very important layers are starting to go in — wiring, services and all the things that will eventually sit quietly behind the walls while the kitchen, bakery and café get on with their day.

It’s one of those stages where the space suddenly starts to feel much more real. Every cable, fitting and finished surface gets us a little closer to bread coming out of the bakery, coffee on the bar and food leaving the kitchen.

There’s still plenty to do, but Nature’s Corner is beginning to look less like a building site and more like the future home of Wild Things.

What a day 🌾

We’re still on such a high after Saturday’s Harvest Festival at Wendling Beck.

The response was overwhelming — we sold out, the place was buzzing, and it was so lovely to see so many people eating, drinking, chatting and spending the day with us.

A huge thank you to Rosie and Alex for bringing the day together and for creating such a special place for it to happen.

And a massive thank you to the Wendling Beck market gardeners, whose incredible work and produce were right at the heart of what we served. So much of the food came directly from their growing, harvesting and hard work, and the day simply wouldn’t have been what it was without them.

We also loved Josiah from talk on beans and peas — such a brilliant reminder of how important these crops are, and why we should all be eating more of them. They’re good for us, good for the soil, and such an important part of a more resilient and sustainable food system.

And thank you to everyone who came along, queued patiently, ate with us and supported Wild Things. We’re completely overjoyed.

It felt like a little glimpse of what’s to come when we open properly later this year — food rooted in the landscape, brilliant produce grown just beyond the kitchen door, and a really lovely community around it.

We’re building the opening team for Wild Things!

A new kitchen, bakery, shop and gathering space in the middle of the Wendling Beck nature recovery landscape. With produce grown just beyond the kitchen door, sourdough, pastry, fire cooking, great coffee and a lot of good food.

We’re looking for:
FOH Manager
FOH team + supervisors
Chefs
Kitchen porters
Bakers + pastry / bakery chefs

Full-time and part-time roles available.

We want people who are curious, reliable and genuinely into food and hospitality. Senior roles will have the chance to help shape the place from the start.

Opening November.

Mid Norfolk — with Norwich getting much easier to reach once the A47 works are complete

A summer at the farm 🥬

Over the last few months, Wendling Beck Market Garden has become our temporary home for bakery mornings, pizza nights, and long-table feasts.

It’s given us the chance to cook with the garden and meet so many of the people who’ll become part of Wild Things, and begin shaping the food and atmosphere of our permanent home.

Massive thanks to Meg, Tommy & Helen for hosting us in their beautiful glasshouse and yard!

Now the summer series has come to an end, our attention turns fully to opening the kitchen, bakery and shop at Nature’s Corner this November!

Before then, we’ll be back at Wendling Beck Harvest Festival on Saturday 12 September, with Wild Things bakery and seasonal food from 10am.
Come and see us, explore the farm and celebrate the harvest with us.

Tonight! Our final Wild Things pizza night of the summer 🍕

We’ll be at Wendling Beck from 4pm with sourdough pizzas and seasonal toppings.

We’ll have a **limited number of pizzas available for walk-ins**, so come down early if you want to make sure you get one.
