From Sunday October 18th we are launching the 2nd part to Lucky Fish down on St Andrews Road

One Sunday a month we will be curating a traditional standing sushi experience. This will be closed time slots so that each serving is personal. Taking you back to the roots of Japanese sushi with not a California roll in sight.

Using the best local fish and seafood caught on the south west coast we intend to offer a Japanese culinary journey of taste, texture and flavour. Using various techniques of cooking and preserving we aim to offer an experience to remember. All with a Lolulis twist

13 course menu & 2 cocktails Β£50

We will be offering 4 sushi slots on Sundays, each hr between 12pm and 4pm, each slot lasting 30 - 45 minutes

Sunday is a day that the world slows down a little , a day to relax and we aim to enhance that.

The History of Standing Sushi Bars: Japan’s Original Fast Food

Interestingly, the standing sushi bar concept is deeply rooted in Japanese sushi culture.

Edo Period: The Birth of Sushi Stalls

During the Edo period (1603–1868), sushi wasn’t served in restaurants as it is today. Instead, it was sold from small street stalls, where customers would order and eat while standing. Sushi was considered a fast food, made quickly by skilled chefs and eaten on the go.

Modern Revival

As time went on, sushi evolved into a fine dining experience, with high-end sushi restaurants becoming the norm. Conveyor belt sushi (kaitenzushi) later emerged as a more affordable option. However, in the 2000s, standing sushi bars made a comeback, offering a middle groundβ€”high-quality sushi at reasonable prices in a casual, quick-service format.
