It would appear our lovely neighbours, the developers next door, have decided that fences are merely a suggestion and walls are optional extras……

Not only did the fencing mysteriously disappear this morning without so much as a “heads up”, but a cement wagon appears to have made a new exit strategy by taking a sizeable chunk of the wall with it on the way out….

Now, I’m no builder, but I’m fairly sure walls are generally designed to stay standing and not be used as traffic calming measures… and polite neighbours actually talk…

So if you’re visiting us, please take a little extra care coming in and out of the car park while we all try to work out exactly what the master plan is here… because at the moment, it’s looking suspiciously like “send it and see what happens.”

There it is… the very first roast platter back out of the kitchen!

The first returning roast has officially landed on a table.
And who should be sat there waiting for it? None other than Kelly!…

The kitchen was watching, the team were watching, I was watching… mainly to make sure it actually made it to the table before someone pinched a roast potato on the way….

A massive thank you for the support and for making the return of the roasts such a success already. Right… that’s the first one served. Only another 124 to go today!

Well… the day has finally arrived. The return of the roast. The day many of you have been counting down to like it was Christmas morning…..The Crown Roast Platters are back!

The kitchen has been in full preparation mode since the crack of dawn. The Yorkshire puddings have apparently formed a union and spent the morning reminding me that they should never have been removed in the first place. Fair point….

The bookings have absolutely gone through the roof, which does leave me with one small confession… I was the genius who said, “Let’s take the roasts off for summer.” Turns out I was, in fact, a complete d^%k. Who knew that taking away the thing everyone loved might upset people? Certainly not me at the time….

Thankfully, you lot were quick to tell me I’d lost the plot, and to be fair, you were right. So the platters are back, the gravy is flowing, the crackling is crackling, and normal Sunday service has officially resumed from 12…

See you all today… and if you spot me carrying a roast platter, feel free to remind me what a terrible idea replacing them was. I’m sure I haven’t heard it enough already……

Fordham FC, your line marking machine and paint are now at The Crown and ready for collection! 👌

When we said we wanted to support our local community, we meant it. Grassroots clubs like yours are at the heart of village life, run by locals who give up countless hours so our youngsters & adults can enjoy their football. If we can help make that a little bit easier, then we’re more than happy to do so.

Another commitment delivered and another small way of giving something back to the village that has supported us so well… (well some 😜)…Good luck for the season ahead – now there are no excuses for wonky lines! 😉⚽🍻

The roast platters return this Sunday and, judging by the bookings, you lot have made your feelings VERY clear… flanks!

Before that though, Saturday lunch is BBQ time outside in the garden, with the BBQ menu running until 4pm before we flick back over to the main menu for the evening!

Then Sunday… it’s roast platter comeback day. A few days to go, bookings have gone nuts, and honestly… thank you 🙏 You wanted them back, we listened, and now we’re just hoping the chefs forgive me by Monday 😜…

Right… apparently having a pool table wasn’t enough, so we’ve decided to bring a former World Champion to The Crown!

On Thursday 16th July, Clint “Mowgli” I’Anson and Connor “Big Bones” Jones will be joining us for a Professional Pool Challenge Evening from 8pm. This is your chance to witness some absolutely ridiculous skill levels, challenge the pros if you’re feeling brave, and discover that the shot you’ve been claiming is “easy” for the last 20 years is actually impossible…..

Whether you’re a serious pool player, a pub league legend, or someone who only plays after three pints and suddenly thinks they’re competing at the Mosconi Cup, this is going to be a brilliant night. Expect great banter, unbelievable trick shots, plenty of drinks and, no doubt, at least one person blaming the cue, the table, the lighting and the phase of the moon when they miss the black……

Get the date in your diary, tell your mates, and start practising now… because if you somehow beat a former World Champion, you’ll be talking about it for the next 30 years….

Today we officially received a 5 ⭐ Food Hygiene Rating.

Now, if I’m honest, this wasn’t an easy one and it certainly didn’t happen by accident. Since taking over, we’ve spent countless hours behind the scenes looking at processes, procedures, cleaning schedules, record keeping and all the boring stuff that nobody ever sees when they come in for a pint or a meal or in fact I even knew was a thing 😳!

There were days when it felt like we were drowning in paperwork, days when we’d finished service and still had hours of work left to do, and moments where we questioned why we were making life so difficult for ourselves. But standards matter…

So whilst the sticker says “5”, what it really represents is a team that genuinely cares. Every chef, every member of the front of house team and everyone who has rolled their sleeves up and mucked in has played a part in achieving it.

I’m incredibly proud of what the team has accomplished. We aren’t perfect, we never will be, but we’re committed to constantly improving and giving a pub it can be proud of.

Thank you to the team for absolutely nailing it, and thank you to all of you for supporting us whilst we’ve found our feet and built things the right way.

Now… can someone tell me where this magical free time everyone promised pub landlords actually exists?…

We're open as per the Norm today from 12pm, ready with the drinks, food, banter and the usual questionable management decisions!

We've also got some exciting pool news dropping later today... and no, it's not because I've finally learned how to pot the black without sinking the cue ball at the same time like I normally do!

Keep an eye on the page later for the announcement. Until then, the doors are open, the beer is cold, and we're ready for another day of controlled chaos….

Before anyone starts rattling the door handles, peering through the windows, or sending me messages asking where we are….

Sadly, we won’t be open today. Normal service resumes tomorrow (Wednesday 10th).

Today is one of those glamorous pub-owner days where nobody gets fed, nobody gets watered, and instead we spend the day making some changes behind the scenes. Exciting for us… considerably less exciting for you lot.

Trust me, if I could have worked around it, I would have. But sometimes you’ve got to close the doors for a day to make things even better for the other 364.

We’ll be back tomorrow, the beer will still be cold, the kitchen will still be hot, and I’ll still be making questionable decisions….

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for bearing with us. See you all tomorrow!
