Elphin Tearooms

Elphin Tearooms Homemade cakes, scones, soups & quiche, amazing coffee & tea, with stunning views and a warm welcome. Small progress to date, but we have big plans!

We are a small family owned cafe serving home made cakes, scones (and other sweet things), soup and sandwiches plus quality coffee, tea and hot chocolate. We will have a range of locally made arts and crafts available for purchase as well as information about the surrounding areas. We are also developing the croft land around the Tearooms to provide produce and products for the Tearooms.

We survived the storm with electricity and internet intact, which means we will be open today as planned, and taking card payments (as well as cash) as usual. It's looking quite lovely at the moment, although I expect the day will be filled with "wintery showers" (somewhat romantically named... less pleasant in reality!). Take it easy out there, and pop in if you need some homemade hot food or a "coffee and cake" excuse to get out of the car and shelter somewhere warm.
We also have one table outside for those hardy souls who want to experience every second of the delightful spring weather.

We are open today!!
but we are understaffed... so be patient with us! We've still got the fire going, hot soup, fresh scones, handmade cakes and the all-important teas and coffees.
And the Elphin Wednesday Market is on too, for their first market of the season, so you can stop in and browse some lovely local goodies there as well.

We are re-opening this week, on Wednesday 1st April. The weather forecast is not looking great, but we'll have the fire on, lots of hot soup, and our brand new grinder will be helping us make incredibly smooth coffees to keep you warm and buzzing. (Personally, I'm also looking forward to my first scone of the year... fresh from the oven at 11am on Wednesday!!)
We'll be open every day over Easter, 11am to 4pm, then will be switching to 5 days a week - Sunday to Thursday (closed Fri/Sat).

We're closed on Saturdays for the forseeable future (as well as Thursday and Friday). This Saturday it's for a particularly exciting reason - because we'll all be at Elphin Crofty Day! The evolution of the legendary event that was Elphin Chicken Day, Crofty Day promises loads of fun, games, laughs and even some things to learn, as well as the usual (delicious) range of food and drinks. So... since you can't come into the Tearooms this Saturday, you should come down and check out the incredible Elphin Crofty Day!

We had a customer in today (at about 2:30) who left a small coin purse behind. We would like to get it back to them… if anyone hears anything, please ask them to get in touch or come back in! Thanks

Our team member, Helen, will be running the 25 mile Great Wilderness Challenge on Saturday 16th August to raise money for Highland Hospice.

Helen’s mum, Ann, who many of you will know, was taken from us suddenly, and much too early, by a very aggressive cancer earlier this year. Ann was an integral part of the Tearooms for 5 years, from when we re-opened in 2017 until she retired in 2022, and her influence can still be seen today. We will miss her greatly.

Please sponsor Helen as she takes on this challenge to raise money for Highland Hospice, in thanks for the support they gave her and Ann through the ultimate challenge that Ann faced.

We have lots of local gooseberries and jostaberries in the farmshop today, from on the croft here. Plus some giant courgettes, a range of local meat, and even local yarn from the sheep you can see out our windows.
Although... to be honest... it might be safer not to come today! The weather is really starting to come in here now (this photo is from half an hour ago, when it was nicer!) and we've just had a report of a tree partially down over the road between Strathcanaird and Ardmair...
Take care, wherever you are going or staying today!

Anybody recognise this paddle board?

The paddleboard pictured below has been found at Loch Bad A'Ghaill, near Stac Pollaidh in the Coigach region just north of Ullapool.

There has been a significant multi-agency search conducted between ourselves, HM Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

If this is your paddleboard please urgently contact us on 101 quoting incident reference 1772 of 06/07/2025 so that we know you are safe.

Unfortunately we'll be closed tomorrow (Monday 23rd June) due to staff absence and illness. The dream team, that kept us running today (Sunday), has to go back to school (/their real job) on Monday. We'll be back up and running on Tuesday as the A-team returns and (hopefully) recovers.
