Welcome to Edinburgh, our Festival city. August is when we’re at our most popular. The theatres are busy, restaurants are busy, the streets are busy (even in the pouring rain). Locals will say they prefer the city in September when all the tourists are away. They don’t tell you they love going to see all the shows, the concerts and spotting the celebrities. If you’re a local, you’re very lucky. You get to be a tourist in your own city over August when we become the world’s Festival city plus we get to live here the rest of the year.
If you’re visiting for the first time, you’re in for a treat. You can walk almost everywhere. Start in Princes Street Gardens, East side, just below the Scot Monument.
