These words of the ‘Ode of Remembrance’, which are inscribed on our War Memorial, were written by former Museum Keeper, Laurence Binyon. For , we present this red poppy created by the British artist Mary Delany in 1779. The poppy was made a symbol of remembrance for World War I by John McCrae’s famous poem ‘In Flanders Fields’.
