Queensferry High School Outdoor Learning Programme
From Linlithgow to Bo'ness, through Blackness, and onwards to Queensferry High School via the Inner Forth National Cycle Route 76, today's journey was one that will live long in the memory.
The weather threw everything at us. Heavy torrential rain, thunder rolling across dark skies, and dramatic clouds sweeping over the landscape. Yet somehow, it only added to the experience, creating an incredible backdrop for an unforgettable day of adventure.
The pupils cycled around Linlithgow Loch before tackling the hills towards Bo'ness, where they were rewarded with stunning views across the Firth of Forth. Every mile brought new challenges, new discoveries, and new opportunities to show resilience, determination, and teamwork.
Having spent 25 years coaching and supporting young people in the outdoors, I know that the days that stay with you aren't always the easiest ones. They're the days when young people dig deep, support one another, embrace the elements, and achieve more than they thought possible.
Today was one of those days.
An incredible effort from every pupil involved. The rain will dry, the mud will wash away, but the memories, confidence, and sense of achievement will last a lifetime.
These are the moments outdoor learning is all about.
