We offer a wide range of beverages, along with fresh and healthy meals and snacks in a child friendly and safe environment. REDs has been designed with both children and adults in mind and there is something for all ages; a soft play for the little ones and there’s even a retro video games machine for older kids … and adults to play the ‘Video Games Generation’! Think Space Invaders and Pac-man!!

You can enjoy your coffee and lunch beside the soft play, watching your little ones have fun, or you can watch them on the CCTV from the other end of the restaurant. Inside we have a ‘buggy park’, baby changing facilities and a wide doorway making it perfect for a visit. As we are in the middle of Portobello, we have free parking nearby and easy to reach public transport. There are so many things to see and do in Portobello so why not combine a visit to REDs with a trip to this seaside town! If you are looking to visit us either at the weekend or during school holidays, we recommend you give us a call to book, or pop into our website (found below) to send us a quick request! Hi! I’ve not posted for a while - we’ve been keeping ourselves busy since we closed. I hope everyone is well, enjoyed the summer and now looking forward to Christmas.

Derek’s good friend John Keogh has been sleeping rough in Edinburgh, Glasgow and other towns in between for 12 nights. Last night Derek joined him on the last night of John’s “The Ootsider 12 Nights Of Christmas Sleep-oot”.

The Ootsider is a great product for a great cause, anyone looking for a warm waterproof coat that will also help the homeless, check it out. All profits made from the sales go towards supplying these coats, which can also double as sleeping bags, to the homeless. Read John’s and The Ootsider story - like, share, comment, help if you can.

Hi all. Well after 15 amazing years running Reds we decided to step down and retire. Wednesday we cooked, made coffee, served you all, cleaned up and locked the doors for the last time 😞

It’s been 15 amazing years where we’ve met great people and made great friends. Some of our very first little customers ended up working here.

As you know we have 4 children (our youngest turned 18 last week 😦) and that’s where the idea for Reds came from…. Trying to find somewhere to eat out with nice food for the children as well as us grown ups, 🍔 🥞 something to keep the wee ones occupied, and made to feel welcomed rather than frowned upon if they made a noise - afterall there’s only so many times you can say “sit down and be quiet cos everyone’s looking at us” we couldn’t find that place, so we started it. We hope that you felt welcomed and got some chill time with some tasty food and nice coffee ☕️ with the family, while the little ones made new friends and got to play.

Thank you from the bottom of our heart for your support over the last 15 years and more so through the difficult last 2 years. Our closure has nothing to do with Covid rather the right time for a change for us.

We’ve often been compared to the Von Trapps ….. I think because there’s so many of us 😂, so in their style “So Long, Farewell …” 😢

In October 2006 we purchased this great property and after a lot of work we transformed it from the Seaview to Reds.
On 2 January 2007 we opened our doors for the first time and it’s been a wonderful, sometimes bumpy, journey since. One year in we saw the financial crash and most recently Covid - but its you, our fabulous customers, who’ve been there for us and helped us through some of the hardest times thrown at any business, and for that we thank you from the bottom of our heart ❤️ 😊

Our first little customers all those years ago are all grown up and some have now become part of the Reds team - and wow that does make us feel ancient! Especially when they remind us they used to come in when they were little! 🧸

We’ve had great fun, met lots of amazing people - from both Porty and further afield, reminisced about growing up in Portobello, and made some great, lifelong friends along the way.

Thank you all again and here’s to the next 15! 🥂
