There’s so much to see and do around The Salisbury Arms this summer🍻. Join us and make the most of everything the local area has to offer. We’re just a short walk from some of Edinburgh’s most iconic attractions, including Arthur’s Seat and the Royal Commonwealth Pool, with plenty more to explore nearby.
1. The plaque commemorating Robert Burns and Walter Scott marks the former site of Sciennes Hill House in Edinburgh, where the teenage Walter Scott met the adult Robert Burns during the winter of 1786–1787. It was the first and only time the two iconic Scottish literary figures met, leaving a lifelong impression on the young Scott. It is only a short five minute walk away from The Salisbury Arms! 🏴🏴
2. The Royal Commonwealth Pool is a historic A-listed aquatic center featuring a 50-meter Olympic-sized pool, a diving pool, and a gym🏊. Known locally as the “Commie” it is just across the road from The Salisbury Arms. Perfect for a relaxing dip then a delicious bite🍴!
3. Arthur’s Seat is an ancient extinct volcano, the highest peak in Holyrood Park, and a popular hiking spot offering 360-degree views of Edinburgh🗻. It stands 251 metres (823 feet) high and takes about 2 hours to climb. The most common path starts near Dunsapie Loch or St Margaret’s Loch and is a steady, non-technical walk. On a clear day, you can see across the city, the Firth of Forth, and the surrounding hills.
4. The National Library of Scotland looks after and shares Scotland’s cultural heritage📚. Visit the Maps Reading Room to access their extensive map collection from all across the world 🗺️. This is only a short five minute walk away for The Salisbury Arms!
