Have you heard of the old owner of Old Chain Pier, Betty Moss? She was quite a character!
The pictures above are as follows:
The first one is a popular image found online. Next is a picture of her as a child found by the owner recently. The third is the picture that has been hanging above our spirit shelves since she sadly passed away. We like to keep it there as a rememberance for her. She was the landlady of the venue in the 50's and 60's, and her family had owned it since the turn of the century. She was always wearing kimonos and bamboo glasses. She would swear like a trooper, and used an (unloaded) gun to call last orders! She swung a cutlass over her head to deal with rowdy customers and would tell everyone "f*ck off children" at the end of the night. She was very much in charge! She unfortunately died in 1970, but 50 years later and she is still talked about very much. You can see some historical things in our restaurant that we keep to remember her with.
