Free Fringe shows on daily from 12 to 5! ❤️ Accessibility: Our main cafe area has a small step at the main entrance, but can be accessed via a ramp if it is needed. Our bathroom facilities and gallery space are down 10-12 steps so are not wheelchair accessible. We are trying our best to make our space as accessible as possible, and are happy to accommodate any additional needs for our customers.

End of an era ❤️
We’re so grateful to you all. To everyone who supported our manic decision to open a q***r business in a quiet neighbourhood during a world altering pandemic. Everyone (us included) expected us to fizzle out within a year. And then we blinked and five years had passed. We served thousands of coffees, put thousands of pounds into the pockets of q***r artists, connected with neighbourhoods, saw shy young teens turn into confident young adults, and reached a vast network of people online.
I (Oskar) am so grateful to for making this place happen and run and take care of the daunting administration of a business. I couldn’t have made kafe kweer what it was without you.
We’re older, wiser, and wearier now. We’re taking a big break to rest and will be back with all sorts of fun projects in time for spooky season.
Thank you to our team and for your help cleaning and clearing us out yesterday ❤️ thank you to .bee for taking a bunch of our furniture and coffee machine for an exciting new venture.
And thank YOU for being here for our mad little journey. More things are coming soon.

We’re in the final stretch 😭❤️
We’re open as normal today, tomorrow (Sunday 31st) we’ll be open but starting to properly clear out and clean the space.
We have coffees of all types, peach and raspberry iced teas, and a last bunch of art by our incredible local q***r artists! Plus a last handful of books from , any left over by the end of today will be brought back to Lighthouse ❤️
We’re still offering our last few groceries on a PWYC basis, plus some delicious sodas for just £2 ❤️
We’re so appreciative of everyone who’s come in this week with lovely words, letters, and tears in their eyes ❤️ we couldn’t have done any of this crazy project without you, and we have to reiterate; we’re just getting started! Keep your eyes peeled for big things later this year 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Its our last week of trading in our current space, with the last day being this Sunday 31st august 😭❤️
We’re open 9-4 every day, and these are our main points you should know about:
-We are starting to clear out our kitchen, so won’t have lunch food available, but have plenty of pastries, hot and iced drinks, and smoothies while stocks last!
-we’re offering all our groceries on a pay what you can basis! Help us clear out and stock up on teas, coffee and chocolates for the winter months!
-we still have loads of works by local artists so come support them!
We’ve been so appreciative of your support and kind words this month. Please remember this is just the beginning of our overall project. We’ll be back with all sorts of projects for you this autumn 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Its our last proper weekend with full lunch service! From Monday we will start dismantling furniture in our kitchen, serving only pastries, hot drinks, and our last smoothies.
We have £1 OFF all our grocery products, so come stock up on teas and coffees.

We’re thrilled to be able to continue with one of the events scheduled in our Free Fringe programme, upstairs in our main space, TAKING BACK THE BISCUIT! A poetic workshop that explores food, exploitation, society’s impact on our psyche, and more.
💜Monday-Wednesday 11th-13th August 2:30-3:30pm
FREE TICKETS to control numbers are available on our Eventbrite, link in our bio 💜
The event will be upstairs and accessible to folk, with a wheelchair ramp if needed. A BSL interpreter will be present on the 13th. Our toilet is down a set of 12 steps with a sturdy handrail.

Unfortunately we have been visited by fire safety officers who have decided that our space isnt suitable for Fringe shows.

We didn’t think this would be an issue after years of being a low risk venue with no problems, but respect their judgement in this scenario and obviously want everyone to be safe.

All current and upcoming shows will be moved to the Sandport Tavern or other venues, please consult the Free Fringe for more information.

This decision will massively impact our footfall and cash flow, so we’d like to remind you all to please come support us in our last month open, we’re the perfect chill space to get away from the Fringe chaos

A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT FROM KAFE KWEER
Our lease ends on 1st September, and with this we have made the tough decision to shut our doors after 5 incredible years on that date We do this entirely on our own terms, recognising a coinciding shift in our personal lives, creative goals, rising costs, and beyond.

Kafe Kweer started as a manic project at the height of lockdown, after we saw a Facebook post advertising a small shop looking for new management.
Everything was so uncertain at this time that we decided to just GO for it, with zero expectations and lots of risk. We thought we’d be lucky to last a year. And here we are exactly five years later, despite covid, brexit, cost of living crises, and being located in a quiet part of town.

Despite closing our physical space, we aim to keep using our platform and network to host some of our social events in other spaces, helping q***r people find connection amidst this hostile world, and spreading the news about other local q***r events/resources. The ethos and mission of what KK is about is more than one single shop could ever do, and we plan on continuing to be a hub for Edinburghs q***r community in one way or the other!

We close our doors in September with our heads held high and our hearts very full with the love you’ve given us over the years. We know this’ll be sad news for many, and it’s a sad decision for us, but we believe in doing what we’ve always done: adapting and evolving.
We’d ask that you all come see us this August for our last month open. We’ll be selling a lot of our stock at bargain prices , hosting Fringe shows every afternoon, and probably crying a lot.
This is only the beginning.
