Until the late 1970s, Brown of the Mound occupied the place where our neighbour the Wash Bar now stands. Odd to see how derelict the place looked then.

This looks like the last days of Brown of the Mound, the long established stationers - just the place for all your office sundries. The upper floors were converted into flats and the lower floors have been a pub for a long time.

Greyfriars Bobby was two years into his 14 year vigil at his master’s grave when our building first opened as the Edinburgh Savings Bank in 1860. Now a cafe, we are just a short walk to the famous tribute to this local hero.
