Reeves restaurant update

Fifth of September 2026

One year on from the fire that changed our lives, our business, our everything… some for the better… some for the worse.

As we have travelled this path with its undulations, twists and turns; we have learnt to appreciate every second of every day. It has been welcome relief to be off that treadmill to enjoy quality family time, and now we are growing slightly apprehensive about whether we can keep up when we get back on it.
I am sure it is just like riding a bicycle….. once we get back into the saddle, we will be fine, however the nightmares and the early morning wake ups are certainly challenging.

Despite all the worry, work is progressing well and the team are all pulling together, especially as we are now against the clock. Anna and Tomaz from brushstrokes have been working around the clock this weekend to get the toilets ready and all of Ian‘s team from electrics have been working flat out. It has been a truly interesting journey and all of these contractors have been so professional and diligent in their trade.. we are so very grateful

We must say a special thank you to Chris of Quantock and Abbey Wines for giving us a beautiful white wine fridge, and for supplying us with fizz for our Open evening event… we have had a partnership for 21 years and can thoroughly recommend the produce and customer service. We consider Chris to be a very special friend in our life who has supported us throughout through thick and thin; he has been a very important part of our journey.

As previously mentioned, we will be having our opening evening on Saturday, the 12th of September. Everybody who has given us emotional, physical, financial, practical support is very welcome to join us for nibbles and drinks.

We will be open for reservations from Friday, the 18th of September, please call (01643) 821414 and and leave a message if I cannot answer the phone

Any vouchers that have been bought previously will be validated and still in credit regardless of expiry date and we are very happy to produce vouchers for any forthcoming events such as birthdays anniversary or Christmas and can take payment via Bacs .

We have not written our Christmas party menu yet, but we will be offering a similar menu at a similar price to what we have done in previous years; we are getting very booked up for Christmas parties so please take your opportunity now.

We will also be open for our seven course New Year’s Eve menu and again tables are rapidly being booked so please don’t miss this opportunity to book your table now.

May we take this opportunity to thank everybody who has given us their support in whatever manner they have been able to over the last 12 months. It has been remarkable and has buoyed us up more than words can say.

Our gratitude is infinite, thank you to everybody for your support, love and friendship; we are so truly blessed to have you all on side and will never forget your generosity in easing our journey over the last 12 months

It will not be long now before we are back doing what we know best and we are so looking forward to it, we have missed our vocation, we have missed all of you, and we have missed our routine.

We look forward to celebrating our future with you all and thank you once again for all your support.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 12th x

Reeves restaurant update

Well….. the last few weeks have been crazy. The momentum is building as all the different contractors are on-site and choreographing their trades to fit in with timings and the order in which everything has to be done.. it has been fascinating watching the layers of work being built up and equally fascinating to see the order in which things are done.
At one point last week, in the extreme heat, there were so many contractors on site that they were literally tripping over each other , it was great to see and hear the shared camaraderie between them, that is when we realise how much we miss the gentle buzz and hum of a happy restaurant ; we are beginning to get so excited about the prospect of reopening very soon and equally daunted by the amount of work we have to do to get everything in place …. Risk assessments, health and safety documents , COSSCH requirements , new menus , uniform , equipment ….. the list goes on and on and although we have been chipping away relentlessly over the past 11 months , the list seems to get longer and with both children home from school our attentions are more stretched and the guilt gets greater .

For those of you that have supported us over the last year with your emotional, financial physical and practical support we would like to invite you to an open evening on Saturday, the 12th of September so that we can showcase the restaurant , kitchen and wash rooms. We will just be offering a few nibbles and a few drinks., nothing fancy as we have not earned any money for a long time. Please let me know if you can come so I have an idea of how many we are catering for by messaging this page or using Messenger..

It goes without saying that we are extremely grateful for all the support that has been shown by the local and wider community and we feel so blessed to be part of it and to feel so cherished….and now for the photos….🙏

Reeves Restaurant update

11 months to the day of our disastrous fire , the reopening of the restaurant is beginning to finally feel tangible. Although there is still so much to do, everyone is pulling out all the stops to meet the target deadline. Scaffolding has finally come down both inside and outside and what a joy that has been. Albie , the perfect gentleman, has yet again cleared the garden to enable me to get to my washing line. The ceiling has been clad with Rockwall and Paul and Henry, Thomas and Ben have been working non-stop to get the stud work frame and insulation in position ready for the remainder of the Rockwall to be fitted tomorrow, Thursday. Next week we are anticipating the kitchen floor being fitted….we have chosen a gorgeous sparkly black finish and also the sanding and staining of the restaurant floor. We have been so grateful for the dry weather as we are so very limited on storage , while being mindful of all the farming community who must have had one of the worst years especially following on from the heavy rain over winter and our hearts have gone out to them.
As a family, we have been able to enjoy the children being off school with no time limits and deadlines of having to be back by 2 pm…. We have caught up with family …. The children attended their first family funeral and we were so proud of the way in which they conducted themselves ; we have also caught up on family celebrations ; something that we could not have contemplated in the past and although we are snowed under here with all the paperwork necessary to restart the business, we are determined to make sure we have quality family time this summer holiday. We have even caught up and spent time with some of our valued friends and customers alike and we have been overwhelmed yet again with the generosity shown. Thank you .
Although we cannot share a definite opening date we are anticipating being able to open our doors once again mid September. As soon as we have a definite date, we will make this known .
In the meantime, let’s enjoy what’s left of the balmy evenings, the swallows zipping around at ankle level for insects … or merely to taunt the spaniels …. and let’s celebrate life as we know it. 🍾🥂

Reeves restaurant update

Oh my, what a wacky couple of weeks. As I sit here on a glorious summer evening, I am being serenaded by the swifts in all their glory as they teach their babies to fly in this wonderful nursery ground , the sky is all shades of pinky purple blue with the glorious Dunster castle as my backdrop as the swifts swoop and soar and sing their hearts out in their screaming parties.
We have been so lucky to have been given the time to really enjoy this amazing sight and sound and we will never forget it.
This last couple of weeks have seen huge change both personally and physically.
The restaurant is coming on in leaps and bounds; Anna , Thomas and Ben have almost finished in their redecoration of the restaurant internally and externally and their attention to detail is second to none. Roy, Liam and Albie from J and L builders have worked like superheroes building , clearing , digging.; we have full faith in them , they are so professional. Dan and his team from Oldfield and Langdon have been doing the first fix on the plumbing in the kitchen and and Ian and his team from electrics have been doing the first fix on the kitchen’s electrics which is no mean feat as the extraction seems to be taking up 99% of the space!
Everybody has told us from personal experience , that after seemingly little progress has been made everything will start to come together so quickly, and this is truly the case.
We had a meeting with Lee from Aspen’s who organised within 24 hours to bring us specific samples of New crockery and cutlery for the restaurant , this was a truly uplifting and exciting moment …. We now just need to work out where the money is coming from to pay for it 😩
On a personal note, it came as rather a shock to all of us that River has finished school, where on earth did those years go? After 24 hours of stress and anxiety, and , an amazingly supportive wattsapp group , I finally managed to get him to his prom which had been cancelled due to the heat the week before. Once there he absolutely loved it, subsequently he has been grieving for the life that has been familiar for the last seven years and is struggling to come to terms with the transition to post 16. Fortunately, he has been lucky enough to be awarded a place at his current School Polden Bower in Bridgewater, if you have a child with Sen, I cannot recommend this School highly enough, it is a fabulous establishment in every aspect and we have been incredibly fortunate that River has been able to be nurtured in this wonderful environment.
Gypsy Hope is enjoying her enrichment week at College. She is due to start her two year GCSE course in September which is going to throw a whole new level of challenge in our direction, fortunately our life is never dull! The dogs are struggling with the heat and even more so with the amount of goose grass that is around this year, every time they shake, we feel like we are being hit by 1000 Ball bearings; Crumpet the cats is insistent on catching baby mice and shrews which poor Gypsy Hope is finding most disconcerting, especially when she treads on one in the middle of the night!
Fortunately there is never a dull moment in the Reeves household ; every day is a gift and that is why we call it the present 🎁

Reeves restaurant update
30th June 2026

Today is a very important day, for 21 years ago this very day we opened our doors as Reeves Restaurant for the very first time.

Looking back, it has certainly been a journey of love and loss, joy and sorrow, and highs and lows and a non-stop learning curve.

The ingredients of life

We have made many friends, some of whom we have been lucky enough to catch up with socially over the last nine months; hopefully we can have a few more engagements before we get back to work.

We even got to enjoy the music festival at the Luttrell Arms this weekend for the first time, it was an absolute blast and all credit due to them for hosting such an amazing event.

We now have a roof, windows and doors. We had a very positive meeting with Harry from Aspen’s regarding re-fitting the kitchen so everything is in full swing.

We also had a site meeting with Mike who is making us a bespoke bar and we are all very excited about it.

Paul is working his Jimmy Jangers off doing all the stud work in the Kitchen and bar , it was like a sauna here last week in the heat and I felt for him.

The brilliant decorators “Brush Strokes” are here and the sound of banter coming from downstairs is joyful to hear, Thomas has the voice and the whistle of an angel…. He can switch from opera to Jazz to Birdsong in a second and did such a good impersonation of Bonnie barking it actually stopped her mid bark which is unheard of!
That man should be on stage.

I have spent the morning writing the new Wine list having collaborated closely with Chris from Quantock and Abbey Wines with whom we have been right from the start of our journey.

Tomorrow, I will turn my hand to the drinks menu and I’m sure Darren will have a big input on cocktails 🍸

Darren and I have taken on an allotment and have grand plans of growing organic produce for the restaurant so any advice would would be welcome as we are both novices !

We are going to celebrate our 21st year this evening as a family, and I am looking forward to cooking a Thai Green curry 🍛

As always, thank you to everyone for support 💕🙏💐

Reeves Restaurant Update

There is much to report this week as that glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel is growing ever brighter.
We very nearly have a complete roof…. Well done to Woody and Nathan of AVH roofing who worked tirelessly throughout the very heavy showers.
Delbridges of Minehead have started fitting the new windows which they have handmade and they look absolutely gorgeous.
At times this week , whilst trying to tend to the garden , I have felt emotions verging on despair, just wondering how on earth we are ever going to get it back to how it was…. But as if by magic Mark sent Shane in today and he has done a miraculous job of tidying and clearing up.
We had great news yesterday, the insurance company have agreed to Aspen’s quote for re-fitting the commercial kitchen so now all we have to do is get the new Kitchen ordered , a meeting with all involved and wait for a date to them for them to start.
Ben has been working flat out preparing the restaurant for redecorating next week and we have built up a small mortgage buying paint samples…. I swear I must be the most indecisive person in the world.
Thank you so much, Dean and Colin for your very much needed advice and support in the makeover of our restaurant.
Thank you everyone for all your support and we very much look forward to seeing you all when we reopen, which is now only a matter of weeks away . 🥂🍾

Reeves Restaurant Update

Nine months on from the destruction and devastation unleashed by the fire , the glimmer of light is getting brighter by the day .
There has been a whole team of professionals working their magic under the direction of Mark Sully of Reframe. Mikey , with the help of Albie, has totally rebuilt the fire damaged roof despite the rain stopping play on occasions! Ian, Mike and George from Electrics are half way through rewiring the restaurant and the roofers will be here all next week to re roof the kitchen …. Once water tight , the work will begin to rebuild the kitchen from scratch . It was been lovely to see so many familiar faces back on site and the building is loving the energy and the buzz …. although apologies to the neighbours for the noise level ! We had a really positive site visit yesterday with Mark from Reframe and Matt, the surveyor from Tranby who has been with us from day one of our journey …. their excellent working relationship and professional commitment has been the driving force of this project and we consider ourselves blessed to have such an amazing team of people rebuilding our business and home .
Thank you to Huw for keeping my “Hippy “ garden in check during its shared space with a building site !
We are now writing lots of to do lists and thinking about the next menus as the reality of re opening becomes almost tangible and there is a frisson about excitement in the air .
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and good wishes .💐

Reeves restaurant update

As we approach the middle of May, we finally have a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
The ping-pong game of bureaucracy seems to have settled a little and Reframe are now in a position where they can send contractors in to start the renovation. Paul has been working his socks off to build the stud framing in the kitchen and toilet block, his attention to detail is faultless. Dan and Clint have plumbed in the fixtures and fittings for the toilet block and I am very excited that we will finally have to Loos that we are proud of.
Ian will be starting the process of rewiring the restaurant in early June and as soon as we get the okay from the insurance company for Aspen to redesign and renovate the kitchen, then it will be all guns blazing. The roofers are coming in next week to remove the tiles , clean them, re-batten, reline it and get it all looking ship shape…. It looks like they have chosen the best weather to be doing this next week.
Meanwhile, we have been finishing unpacking and finding new homes for our precious belongings, some of which we had forgotten that we had so we have definitely had some magical moments. Many thanks go to Annabelle and Loraine this week for returning to us some of our bits and bobs which they have restored with such beautiful attention to detail, we are so grateful. 🙏
We are continuing to enjoy our time as a family and out of all the trauma and shock over the past few months we have definitely been blessed with having so much family time and it has certainly eased the burden .
Thank you all of you for following our progress and for your lovely comments .
We will soon be back doing what we love 💕🥂🍾

Reeves restaurant update

We are feeling much more positive this week as the overwhelming task of unpacking, cleaning and repositioning is getting smaller.
It helps that the house martins, swallows and swifts have arrived along with the sunshine to boost the feel good factor. This year I shall make sure I have the time to lay flat on my back and watch these amazing birds performing their joyful aerial displays. Their tenacity, resilience and loyalty are inspirational.

Last weekend, I made the most of not working weekends at the moment and spent the most precious time with ‘The Posse’; my close girlfriends back from when I was a teacher. That was the first time we have collectively spent time together for 13 years and it was like we had never been apart. We laughed until we cried, we sorted out all the problems of the world and compared aches and pains, collagens and gummies, bellyfat and textured legs…. It was the most fabulous weekend and made me realise how much I had missed them and girly company over the years.

Our dear friend Huw, freely gave up his time and expertise to pull my hippie garden into some kind of shape so now I can enjoy it in the sunshine rather than despair of its unruly nature

I am also extremely grateful to my friend Leo Noad of Flourish Career Training Ltd who also generously gave her time to support me as I was going through my emotional low point. She listened with empathy and patience and found a pattern in my thoughts which was not necessarily beneficial to me or anyone around me. She spent time after our meeting analysing our discussion and putting together a package of ideas which I will work through in my own time to rethink how I may move forward in order to benefit myself and everyone around me. She is extremely inspirational and motivational and really helped me to see the wood for the trees; as a result, I feel clearer, fresher and almost like a weight has been lifted. I can thoroughly recommend her services if you are going through any kind of crisis in your life.

Regarding the restaurant, we have had many meetings this week. We met with Harry from Aspen’s and have redesigned the commercial Kitchen; we met with Mike the joiner and Carpenter who is redesigning our bar, we met with the plumbers to discuss a new toilet block among other things and we met with Ian the electrician. Throughout the course of these discussions we were so impressed with their professionalism, integrity and problem-solving. They are all young men who have acquired so much specialist knowledge in their areas, it has been a real eye opener. Mark Sully , CEO of Reframe has chosen his contractors extremely well and we are very confident that once work gets underway it will be done to an impeccable standard.
The building regulations officer has been and made his observations so now quotations have to go to the insurance company and once they have been cleared , work can start in earnest. We cannot wait; the sooner it is started the sooner we can get back to doing the job we love, with the staff members we love, for the clientele we love.
Thanking everybody for your support. Please believe me when I say it is a huge bolster. 💕
