Something a little different is happening at Yarn Market Hotel this weekend.

From 25th to 28th September, we are delighted to be hosting guests joining an Exmoor Yoga & Walking Holiday organised by Wellness & Walking Holidays, in collaboration with Secret Hills Walking Holidays.

There will be walking, yoga, beautiful Exmoor scenery, good food and, hopefully, a little time to properly switch off too.

We love seeing the hotel used in different ways. One weekend might bring walkers through our doors, another musicians, craft enthusiasts or people simply looking for a few quiet days in Dunster.

And there is plenty more coming.

October brings our Heritage Craft Escape and Choral Singing Weekend, November brings another Exmoor walking break, followed by our festive stays and New Year Jazz. We already have more special breaks planned for 2027 too.

Yesterday we added even more breaks to our website, so if you have not had a look yet, now is a good time.

I love looking at the heart of medieval shopping in Dunster! The 'Yarn Market' was built at the top of the High Street to protect wool merchants from the elements. I can only imagine the chatter as sales were struck, lubricated by their drinks of choice - spiced wine or strong ale! Wool 'serge' in primary colours would have draped over the ledges, dyed with madder (red), sphagnum moss (yellow) and woad (blue) - dyeing of cloth led to the local River Avill being brightly coloured more often than not! Dunster has a long crafting history and many tales to tell and I feel very excited to be immersing myself in its many offerings with my creative colleagues Quilliance and JanesBooksnBindings at the nearby Yarn Market Hotel for a Heritage Craft Escape next month :)

With VisitEngland announcing this year’s ROSE Award winners, we thought it was a lovely moment to look back at something we are still incredibly proud of.

In 2025, Yarn Market Hotel received a VisitEngland ROSE Award, recognising accommodation providers who offer outstanding customer service and, perhaps most importantly, the warmest of welcomes.

ROSE stands for Recognition Of Service Excellence, and for a small, family run hotel like ours, that means a great deal.

It reflects the things we care about every day. Welcoming our guests properly. Helping with walking plans and special breaks. Remembering the little things. Making people feel comfortable and looked after while they are here.

And one of the nicest things about the award is that it stays with us, as long as we remain part of the VisitEngland Quality Scheme.

So, congratulations to all of the 2026 ROSE Award recipients. We know just how special that little rose feels.

Could you walk nearly 45 miles across Exmoor in three days?

This October, we are asking you to find out.

The Exmoor Challenge is not a race. There is no prize for being first. This is about endurance, determination, encouraging the people walking beside you and discovering just how far you can push yourself.

Over three days, you will take on almost 45 miles of Exmoor. Coastal paths. Open moorland. Steep climbs. Dunkery Beacon. The Exe Valley. And quite possibly a few moments when your legs ask what on earth you were thinking.

But that is why it is a challenge.

Come for yourself, come with a friend, or use the experience to raise money for a cause that matters to you.
