Castlecaulfield 3–2 Loughshore United
A restructured Castlecaulfield side secured a hard-fought three points against an undefeated Loughshore United side making their return to Mid Ulster football after a spell competing in another competition.
Loughshore started strongly, proving to be a solid, direct and well-organised outfit. However, Castlecaulfield struck first after some excellent play down the right, with Michael Owens delivering a teasing cross which found William Black at the back post to give the home side a 1–0 lead.
Loughshore responded when a defensive mix-up allowed J. Muldoon to finish well and level the scores. Matters then became even more difficult for Caulfield when Loughshore were awarded a penalty following a scramble in the box, with William Buchanan shown a straight red card for handball. K. Coney converted from the spot to put the visitors 2–1 ahead, leaving Castlecaulfield with ten men for over an hour.

Despite being a man down, Castlecaulfield came out with real purpose after the break. Matthew Hughes, returning to the club after a brief spell away, replaced debutant Andrew Hawe, who was unfortunate to pick up an injury after a bright opening spell.
Caulfield’s determination and tireless work rate eventually paid off. Hughes was brought down inside the box on two occasions, with Tyler Kennedy showing nerves of steel to dispatch both penalties and turn the game around.
Leading 3–2 with 15 minutes remaining, Castlecaulfield defended resolutely, while still threatening on the counter through their willing forward runners. The players showed tremendous character to see out the remaining minutes and secure a memorable victory.
