Sometimes, running a small family business means that family life and restaurant life overlap a little more than we’d like. ❤️

Over the next couple of weeks, there are a few days when we need to put our aprons down and give our attention to our family.

We know that unexpected closing days aren’t always ideal, especially if you were planning to visit us, so we really appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sweet & Smoky is very much a family-run little restaurant, and behind every plate, booking and busy service is a family juggling everyday life just like everyone else.

Thank you for continuing to support our little place and for always being so understanding. It genuinely means a lot to us. 🤍

Please take a little note of the closure dates on the poster, and we’ll see you around them for plenty of good food and warm welcomes.

On Thursday 1st October, we’re celebrating World Vegetarian Day at Sweet & Smoky with a special 3-course menu dedicated entirely to beautiful plant-based flavours.

Starter: Sautéed Asparagus
Main: Vegetable Bean Stew
Dessert: Golden Bread with Pear in a Port W**e Reduction

£29.50 per person

Whether you’re vegetarian, trying to eat a little more plant-based, or simply fancy something different, everyone will love this menu!

Spaces are limited in our cosy little restaurant, so don’t leave your booking too late!

We’ve got lots happening at Sweet & Smoky before the end of the year, so get those diaries out and save the dates! ❤️

From special themed evenings and festive dinners to our very first anniversary celebration, we have some lovely things planned and we can’t wait to share them with you.

A much-loved Portuguese favourite — a light, creamy, mousse-like dessert made with sweetened condensed milk and eggs. Simple, traditional and seriously delicious.

🍗 Tuesday Chef’s Pot – Chicken Gardeners Stew
A hearty Portuguese-style chicken and vegetable stew with potatoes, peas and carrots, all brought together in a rich tomato and w**e sauce. Proper comfort food!

We honestly can’t put into words what this means to us!

A HUGE thank you to every single person who has voted for Sweet & Smoky and helped get us this far. To be recognised as a finalist in Scotland’s Nation’s Choice Food Awards 2026 is something we’re incredibly proud of.

And it’s all because of YOU.

Your support doesn’t stop when you leave our little restaurant in Dunbar — you’ve supported us, recommended us, shared our posts, brought your friends and family, and now you’re helping us take Sweet & Smoky beyond our doors.

But… it’s not over yet!

This week 24th August at Sweet & Smoky, we’re bringing you a little taste of Portugal. 🇵🇹

🥣 Soup of the Week — Caldo Verde
A traditional Portuguese potato and kale soup with garlic and delicate slices of chouriço. Simple, comforting and full of flavour.

🍚 Dessert of the Week — Rice Pudding
A creamy Portuguese favourite, perfect with a little cinnamon.

🍲 Tuesday Chef’s Pot — Carne de Porco à Alentejana
Tender marinated pork cooked with clams, garlic, white w**e and traditional Portuguese seasoning, served with crispy potatoes and fresh coriander.
