Our beloved Penny Girl entered our life 12.5 years ago and changed it forever. It’s with the deepest sadness to say that Penny has passed away suddenly and left us with a huge hole in our hearts.
From the moment we got her, she’s not just been a family member, but any dog owner knows they take over the house in the best way possible. She joined me in my work day every day in London for over 11 years and now of course…Penny’s Place. This cafe was completely inspired by this wonderful dog and now it will become her legacy.
For clarity, I’m not announcing Penny’s passing for any form of marketing(I hate even having to write that), but as she was a very important Dormansland community member, I know many of you(and your little ones) loved Penny very much and some of you have even grown up with her expecting to see her in the cafe. I’d like to give you all the opportunity to explain in your own way to the kids that she will no longer be at the cafe and only in our hearts.
Penny’s last few months were filled with so much joy and excitement at seeing each and every one of you in the cafe, especially her doggie friends, most notably:
Hazel, Alfie & Winnie, Koda, Toby, Pip, Max, Simba, Belle, Nacho, Layla, Cara, Rosie, Rolo, Pedro and even Gus…

Penny’s Place will continue to be a very happy community space to bring your kids, doggies and friends…all in the memory of our Penny! RIP my girl….🥹

I could tell you the coffee is good.
I could show you another picture of cake (or Penny).
I could remind you we do fresh breakfast pastries, homemade brunch/lunch and ice cream/cakes.

But if you’ve followed us for a while, you already know all that.

So instead, I’ll just say this…

Today, my little community coffee shop will open its doors, I’ll turn the coffee machine on, the kitchen will get busy and I’ll wait to see who walks through the door.

Some will be regulars whose orders I will know before they sit down.
Some will be people I haven’t seen for months.
And hopefully, there’ll be a few faces I’ve never met before.

That’s the lovely(sometimes frustrating) thing about this business — I genuinely never know what sort of day we’re going to have.

So, no sales pitch...

Just a reminder that we are a community café with great food, great coffee and a lady (and her dog) who’ll be genuinely pleased to see each of you every single time. ❤️

We have now just marked 8 months being open. Saying time flies is an understatement, but having finished July with an all time high for customer and business levels, I wanted to personally thank all those who have been so supportive of Penny’s Place, many from day 1, others more recently.
I left my corporate life in London for more work life balance and to try and do something that actually mattered…now whilst I’ve never been so physically exhausted from a job each day before, I can’t express just how much job satisfaction I finally have here now and it’s solely down to this community…
So…to those of you in my community and surrounding…myself and Penny would like to THANK YOU for supporting us, being kind, and of course supporting small local businesses! Here’s to another 8 months of growth and meeting new faces 🤗

So happy to see some laughs and loads of chatting today…
We’re growing with each Monday, so if you know anyone that is looking for some new company, bring them along anytime from 11am on Mondays. No food or drink is necessary to buy (though it’s here if you want it), just good company 🤗

On the menu tomorrow (Saturday)…homemade quiche with feta, asparagus and mushroom, then why not finish off with a generous piece of fresh carrot cake! Pop in to sit outside (shady spots too) and enjoy our delicious food in Dormansland’s community cafe! 🤗
