Good evening Dorchester - our second coffee roastery in Dorchester is officially up and running. Now that we can roast up to 9,000 cups an hour, we’re stepping up both our resilience and roasting power.

Here’s a look at our roasting journey:

We started off roasting in a wok, over 17 years ago.

We then bought a CBR101 electric roaster, roasting just 250g a time in our kitchen.

We stepped up to a CBR1200 roaster, where 1kg batches were possible at our first shop in Dorchester, where FINCA was born in 2014.

Our first dedicated roastery was established in 2016 with a 10kg roaster.

And now we’ve upgraded to a 20kg roaster in 2024, at a new second roastery, bigger and better than ever.

With two roasters, we can now roast smaller batches at our first roastery, and larger batches at our new roastery.

We’d like to thank you for your support as we continue our coffee journey.

Tomorrow, 19th June 2024, marks ten years since the birth of Finca.

When we first opened our little coffee shop in Great Western Road on 19th June, 2014, we had no idea of the journey we were on. Your continued support has helped us grow this business from just an idea to six coffee shops and a dedicated roastery in under ten years.

Our first and original Finca in Great Western Road, “Little Dorch” as it's affectionately known by colleagues, will always have fond memories for us. We'll always remember the hard work it took to knock away and wire-brush the damp plaster on the walls to expose the brickwork, remove the recessed door to install our hardwood bi-folds, reclaim the pallet wood we used to adorn the walls, and lift the parquet flooring in the kitchen to re-use on the floor by our doors. And when we seemed ready, we opened our doors, and invited you in. Anyone in the same situation as us will know the mix of excitement, trepidation, and nerves of that opening day – the day you finally find the answer to that yet to be answered question – will people like what we do?

When we opened Little Dorch, we didn't really have a plan to open a second. But when visiting Yeovil one day in 2016, we saw a shop that had been shut for some time on The Borough. It was formerly a cafe over three floors and was way too big for what Finca had to offer. But we negotiated taking on the ground floor, and Finca Yeovil was born. By December 2016, our roastery had moved from inside Little Dorch to a dedicated site at The Grove, increasing our roasting capacity tenfold. In the autumn of 2017, the Town Mill Bakery closed at The Buttercross. We always loved this location, and this became the site of Finca Poundbury by December 2017. In October 2019, we opened Finca Weymouth, formerly the site of Mortimers Bakery, and then of course, COVID hit. When we re-opened for take-away, your support was incredible, giving us the confidence to continue our journey: In May 2023, we opened Finca South Street and by March 2024, Finca Glastonbury was created.

But the six Finca coffee shops we have now would not have been possible without the birth of Little Dorch. If you're in Dorchester tomorrow, do pop in to our little coffee shop in Great Western Road, say hello, and grab a 2014 coffee.

Did you know?

All the cakes we serve are made by us!

… take our Banana Bread - containing freshly sliced bananas, and the eggs are free range, of course.

We’ve done the maths!

Each whole loaf contains two and a half bananas - and you may not know, but there is such a thing as dried banana mix - you can buy it by the kilo!

Making and baking our own cakes may be more time consuming and costly, but it tastes a lot better than using the dried mixes often used by high street chains.

Did you know?

All the cakes we serve are made by us!

… take our Almond Cake - gluten & dairy free - oranges, topped & tailed, quartered, blitzed - plums chopped.

We’ve done the maths!

Each slice, on average, contains 1/3 of an orange and 1/4 of a plum - real fruit - and the zingy, fresh, mouth blast comes from the citrusy real orange not orange flavouring!

Making and baking our own cakes may be more time consuming and costly, but it tastes a lot better than using dried mixes often used by high street chains.

Did you know?

All the cakes we serve are made by us!

… take our Carrot Cake - washed, cut, grated, and mixed with other ingredients such as free range eggs, topped with a lemon icing and chopped walnuts.

We’ve done the maths!

Each slice, on average, contains 35g of carrot, which equates to just over 1/2 a medium carrot.

Making and baking our own cakes may be more time consuming and costly, but it tastes a lot better than using dried carrot mix often used by high street chains.
