Bringing the Community Together Through Food
Village Kitchen was established in 2017, incorporating as a Community Interest Company in 2019 under the name The Playpen Cafe. Our new business name reflects the work we currently do across Clackmannanshire, where we focus on food-based projects supporting the elderly and vulnerable. Village Kitchen: Meals on Wheels
Established as a COVID-response ini
tiative in 2020, our meals at home service provides hearty home-cooked meals to the elderly twice a week, with a doorstep befriending service and wellness check. The aim of this work is to reduce loneliness and isolation, improve nutrition, mental health & wellbeing. Village Kitchen: Lunch Club
Since June 2021 we have been bringing our beneficiaries over 65 together on a Thursday to enjoy a hearty three-course meal at the Hive Community Centre in Dollar. We offer free transport to and from the event for those with mobility issues. We usually welcome around 25 guests per week with volunteer table hosts. Village Kitchen: Big Day Out
Since the start of 2022 we have been taking our elderly beneficiaries on minibus trips with our charity partner Weekday Wow Factor. These trips allow our guests to experience new places and opportunities they wouldn't normally be able to access, including tourist sites, beauty spots, shops and cafes. We are known for our quality baking and regularly prepare and sell seasonal baking products, including items for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. We also take orders for celebration cakes, cupcakes, traybakes and desserts. These sales all support the continuation of our community projects. Village Kitchen: Catering
We provide a range of catering services to suit any budget and event. Our range includes soups, sandwiches, wraps, canapes, a hot-fork buffet service and charcuterie/cheese platters. And of course, our well known baked goodies and desserts. We have a team made up of Manager, Assistant Manager, Chef and are supported by a team of 65 cooks and drivers. We are also overseen by a board of 3 Directors.
