The George III

The George III 17th century inn, hotel & restaurant. Views of the Mawddach Estuary in the Eryri National Park

Make us your base for all the adventures that North Wales and the Snowdonia National Park has to offer. The George III is part of an old railway station on the banks of the Mawddach estuary in Penmaenpool, close to Dolgellau and on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. We’re right on the cycle path, that used to be the old railway track. That puts us within traffic free reach (by bike or on foo

t) of Barmouth and it’s golden sands. With so much to explore, it’s no wonder we’ve been a popular spot for cyclists, walkers, pub goers and dog lovers for generations. The George offers a great place to relax and unwind with a menu packed full of classic pub favourites and dishes created using only the best seasonal produce making us ideal whether stopping by after a long walk or ride or choosing a place to celebrate a special occasions.

*And the Award goes to…*

Well, we all think we know why The George was awarded Wales’ Best Pub and Bar in the recent National Awards. But do we really know why?! Or was there something we’ve not been told…well, read on before you venture to The George to listen to tonight’s live music!

Obviously it was, “the hard work, passion and dedication of the staff” that appealed to the judges. But was that the only reason? According to a completely unsubstantiated rumour going around, the judges are thought to have hinted,

‘The George is a deserved winner of this prestigious award by its ground breaking encouragement of live music. We were impressed with the quality of the music routinely on offer, especially from ‘The Heulwen Collectif’ the band appearing tonight, and formerly known as ‘Celtic Crossing’.

So if you think the rumour may have been started by a member, or members of the band, come up to the top bar around 8pm tonight (Saturday) and see if you agree. There’ll be fast and furious, melodic and tuneful fiddles and flute, cello and harmonica, playing a mix of Celtic tunes from Scotland and Wales - alongside Irish, and the odd tune from Brittany (that’s Brittany France not Britney Spears!).
