fool proof tips to making the best matcha at home 🍵🩷

- ensure the water you use is around 75°-80° so you don’t burn the matcha - you can wait for your water to cool down or add a splash of cold water to the boiling water

- make sure you soak your chasen before using otherwise the bristles will snap + break and it helps create a smoother foam

- make sure you sift your matcha - most high quality will have sediment when your pour it, but you don’t want CLUMPS!

- add the water bit by bit so you don’t end up using too much! more water does not mean greener matcha (it just dilutes it)

- create a paste initially for a smoother matcha, plus this helps get rid of clumps if you don’t have a sift! Good hack 😂

- whisk in a ‘w’ motion, not circles

- don’t be scared to add a bit more matcha (yes we know it’s expensive) but 1-2g just doesn’t cut it in our opinion

make sure you come on down to Exmouth Festival this weekend which is totally FREE to attend! (there is so much going on and of course right next to the beach for the heatwave)

I had planned for tonight’s post to be a super aesthetic vid of me making said matcha on the beach but when I got home it turns out it my bikini top wasn’t doing its job properly 😂 and then I tried to film it again this evening but when I got to the beach I realised I had forgot the matcha … so I GAVE UP 😭

the perfect place to spend a hot sunny weekend- loads of fun activities going on all around Exmouth, so many amazing food trailers, music on until late AND right by the sea?!!

STOP storing your matcha in a glass jar… here’s why:

🍵 UV/sunlight breaks down and the chlorophyll and amino acids which can kill the matchas flavour profile, making it bitter and also visually a lot less brighter green

🍵Oxidation will reduce the nutrients in the matcha and L-theanine which gives matcha its well known benefits

🍵 Glass transfer heats more easily which will accelerate staleness. matcha is meant to be kept cool and dry, away from heat due to how delicate it is

🍵 sunlight and oxidation can change the taste, aromas and vibrancy of your matcha - so even if you buy the absolute best grade and quality, how you store it can really effect the result!

reasons why your MATCHA costs a little MORE than your coffee 🍵☕️

a little insight into the matcha market because it’s a bit more complex than you realise! (Not just green tea!!!)

1) Our ceremonial grade japanese matcha is made from the youngest leaves of the first spring harvest—known as the first flush. these leaves are shade-grown for weeks before being carefully picked, steamed, dried, and traditionally stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder. a single stone mill produces only around 30–40g of matcha per hour, making it one of the most time-consuming teas to produce!

2) On top of that, global demand has exploded over the last few years. Matcha has become more popular in cafés worldwide, but there’s still only ONE first harvest each year, and producing more high-quality matcha takes years, not months…

3) The rise in demand, and lack of supply / longer process to produce it, means prices have soared, and so therefore the cost per kg of matcha compared to coffee is a lot more…

just like coffee, there are different grades, ‘blends’ and qualities of matcha- not all matcha is created equal, and the difference in colour, taste, texture and production is reflected in the price! (lower quality = cheaper, higher quality = more expensive) this is why a lot of cafes prices vary

so this happened!! 🗞️🗞️

we were featured in our local news outlet this weekend in an article that covered our little story of match-a maker, the caravan & the journey so far! 🩷

when I read this, it really reminded me of how far we have come and the reason why we started this in the first place…

a space where matcha actually tastes good, no cheap ingredients, it’s made properly with love, and honours traditions from Japan but with a fun girly twist 🎀

(Where I live seriously lacked good matcha and I absolutely had to change that!)

we can’t wait to see where this takes us and I know this is only just the beginning !!!!🤭🤭🤭🤭
