The Pour House

The Pour House Devizes’ only dedicated craft beer bar.

130+ rotating beers, real ales & ciders, a fridge full of temptation & the town’s smallest beer garden 🍻

60,000 steps later… WE’RE COMING HOME. 🇫🇷➡️🍺

Paris has been brilliant.

Our feet are considerably less enthusiastic. 😂

After the best part of 60,000 steps in 72 hours, we’re heading home today and, while we’ve been busy wearing out our shoes, The Pour House has been enjoying a little rest of its own.

But that’s over now.

The lines are clean, the bar is ready and we’ve got a stonking week ahead.

🏃 TONIGHT: The Pour House Runners are back doing their thing. Meet from 6pm, run from 6.30pm, followed by the considerably more civilised bit involving drinks afterwards.

🍺 THURSDAY: We’ve got Frome Brewing Company Ltd in the house from around 5-ish for a showcase.

Come and meet them, find out more about the brewery and, most importantly, taste some of their fantastic beers. We’ve got some lovely stuff lined up for you.

🍻 FRIDAY & SATURDAY: Normal Pour House weekend shenanigans.

Although…

We’ve heard a rumour that a certain pizza truck might be firing up again. 🍕👀

And you might spot a couple of new faces behind the bar for a few hours too.

More about that later in the week…

We’re not giving you everything on a Wednesday. 😏

Then…

🛟 SUNDAY: Sunday Recovery Club.

Because judging by the week we’ve got planned, we’re probably all going to need it again.

But first things first…

The Pour House is back TODAY from 4–9pm.

Lis has the bar.

The runners have Wednesday evening.

We’re heading home with considerably flatter feet than we left with.

And another busy Pour House week is officially underway.

See you later! 🍻❤️

Okay… this one IS worth shouting about. ❤️

A little while ago, I decided to enter The Pour House into the National Entrepreneur Awards for Best Local Business.

Not because we particularly needed another shiny thing for the wall, but because sometimes going through an awards process makes you stop, take stock and actually look at what you’ve built.

And that alone was a pretty worthwhile exercise.

Then I got an email.

We’ve been shortlisted.

Our little bar, tucked away in St John Street in Devizes, is officially one of just SIX finalists nationally for Best Local Business.

Six.

In the whole country.

Bloody hell. ❤️

We find out on 7th September whether we’ve won, and we’re up against some seriously impressive businesses.

Would we love to win?

Of course we bloody would. 😄

But if finalist is as far as we get, I am absolutely okay with that.

Because The Pour House was never supposed to be just somewhere that sells really good beer.

It’s the runners on a Wednesday. The Hookers. Book Club. Talk Club. Quiz Night.

The people who come in on their own and end up knowing half the bar.

The breweries who come and share what they do.

The community events, fundraisers, ridiculous ideas, smallest beer garden, coolest cellar and, apparently now, pizzas. 🍕😂

And most importantly, it’s you lot.

You turn up.

You support the events.

You recommend us.

You bring your friends.

You tell us when we’ve got something right and, occasionally, when we haven’t.

And you’ve helped turn a very small independent bar in Devizes into something that’s now being recognised on a national stage.

So yes…

Today we’re going to allow ourselves a little shout about it.

THE POUR HOUSE IS A NATIONAL FINALIST FOR BEST LOCAL BUSINESS! 🎉🍻

Thank you.

Seriously.

Whatever happens on 7th September, this one belongs to all of us. ❤️

Today, The Pour House is…

CLOSED.

Actually closed.

Properly closed.

No Book Club.

No Talk Club.

No secret opening for a quiet pint.

No “well, seeing as we’re here anyway…”

CLOSED CLOSED. 😄

We’ve escaped to Paris 🇫🇷, Josh is probably already plotting what he can do next with the pizza truck, and after an early flight back from Dublin, we suspect Lis may be having a well-earned lie down.

So absolutely nobody is opening the bar today.

Enjoy the moment. It doesn’t happen often.

Because we’re going to need the rest…

There’s a cracking week coming up at The Pour House.

🏃 Wednesday: We’re back from 4–9pm, with the runners doing their thing and normal service resumed.

🍺 Thursday: We’ve got Frome Brewing Company Ltd in the house!

They’ll be joining us from around 5pm with plenty of their lovely craft beer for you to try, find out more about them and tell us what you think.

If it’s not already in your diary, put Thursday in now. We’d love to give them a proper Pour House welcome.

Then we roll merrily into the weekend…

And there is a rumour.

Nothing confirmed.

Absolutely no promises.

But after Saturday’s rather successful experiment, there might just be another appearance from a certain pizza truck later in the week. 🍕👀

Josh has plans.

This should worry us all.

For now, though, have a brilliant Monday.

We’re off to explore Paris, and The Pour House will be back doing what it does best from 4pm Wednesday.

See you then. 🍻

WOW. Just… wow. 🍕❤️

What a day yesterday.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, tried the pizzas and helped us with the first soft launch of the new pizza truck.

We knew we liked them.

But the feedback from you lot was absolutely phenomenal.

And, most importantly…

Josh and I are still speaking to each other. 😂

There was a brief moment involving the electrics when that outcome looked slightly less certain, but we figured it out, the ovens got hot, the pizzas started flying out and we had an absolutely cracking afternoon.

Thank you for being our guinea pigs, for being patient while we worked things out and, most of all, for telling us what you genuinely thought.

There’s still a bit of tweaking and learning to do before we properly unleash it, but yesterday was a pretty convincing sign that Pour House Pizzas might just have legs. 🍕🔥

And now…

SUNDAY RECOVERY CLUB: ASSEMBLE.

Frankly, we all need it.

Lis is back from a few days in Ireland, and the bar is open 2–8pm for a suitably gentle end to a brilliant weekend.

Come and do very little.

Have something lovely to drink.

Sit in the garden.

Hide in the cellar.

Put the world to rights.

And gather your strength, because we’ve got another busy week coming up.

As for us?

We’re currently sitting at the train station… 🚂

Where are we going?

Keep an eye on the page and you might find out. 👀

Thank you again for yesterday. Days like that are exactly why we love doing this.

Have a brilliant Sunday, everyone.

2–8pm. Sunday Recovery Club is in session. 🍻

Right then. Shall we actually do this? 🍕🔥

We’ve teased it.

We’ve hinted at it.

We’ve sent Josh and me off on secret missions.

And today, for the very first time…

WE’RE FIRING UP THE PIZZA TRUCK. 🍕🎉

From around 2pm-ish this afternoon, we’ll be running our first proper soft trial and serving pizzas alongside all the usual Pour House loveliness.

And this is where you come in.

We want you to try them.

We want to know what you think.

What works? What doesn’t? Is there enough of this? Too much of that? Would you order it again?

This is a trial, so we’re not pretending everything will be slick and polished from minute one. There may be a little organised chaos. Josh and I may stop speaking to each other. Someone may discover we’ve forgotten something really obvious.

But that’s exactly why we’re doing it. 😄

The sun is shining, the temperature has finally dropped from surface of the sun to something vaguely civilised, and it feels like a cracking Saturday to give this a go.

🍕 Pizza from around 2-ish
🍺 Awesome beer as always
🌿 Devizes’ smallest beer garden
❄️ The coolest cellar in town
👋 And a team genuinely excited to see what you make of our latest idea

The bar is open 12–9pm, so come down, grab a drink and, if you fancy it, help us put the next piece of The Pour House puzzle through its paces.

Today, we make pizza.

What could possibly go wrong? 😬🍕🔥

See you later!

5 reasons we SHOULD run the quiz tonight… and 2 reasons we probably shouldn’t. 🤔

After yesterday’s dramatic WILL THE QUIZ SURVIVE? cliffhanger, we have reached a decision.

But first, the evidence.

FOR THE QUIZ:

1. Four teams have booked.
Which means we have enough people for a proper battle of completely unnecessary knowledge. ✅

2. I’ve already written the questions.
And frankly, somebody should have to suffer them.

3. There are prizes to be won.
Admittedly, you have to demonstrate intelligence to win them, which feels unnecessarily demanding for a Thursday.

4. It’s too hot to do anything energetic.
Sitting in the lovely cool Cellar Bar arguing with your teammates about something you definitely know is practically a public service.

5. Quiz Night is always good fun.
Competitive? Occasionally.
Controversial? Sometimes.
Taken far too seriously by at least one person on every team? Absolutely.

AGAINST THE QUIZ:

1. I have to host it.

2. I have to deal with everyone telling me that their technically-not-quite-right answer should definitely get half a point.

Hmm.

5–2.

The ayes have it.

🎉 THE QUIZ IS ON!

We kick off at 7pm tonight and there are still spaces, so if yesterday’s uncertainty stopped you booking, you can absolutely still join us.

And if quizzing isn’t your thing, fear not.

The bar is open 4–9pm as normal for everyone still recovering from the extraordinary excitement of standing outside staring at the sky with buckets on their heads yesterday. 🌘😂

Come for the quiz.

Come for a quiet drink.

Come to debate whether I’ve marked Question 7 incorrectly.

Just come and have a lovely Thursday with us.

4–9pm. Quiz from 7pm.

See you later. 🍻🧠

🚨 LAST CALL FOR QUIZZERS 🚨

Right, we need your help with this one.

At the moment, we have just three teams registered for tomorrow night’s quiz and, unfortunately, that’s simply not enough to make it viable to run.

So if you’ve been thinking…

“We might do the quiz tomorrow…”

This is your gentle shove to stop thinking and GET BOOKED IN. 😄

I’ll be making the call at lunchtime today. If we’ve got enough teams, brilliant, the quiz is ON and we’ll see you tomorrow night.

If not, we’ll give August a miss, have ourselves a lovely chilled Pour House Thursday instead, and the quiz will return in September.

Booking link is below. 👇

Meanwhile, there’s the small matter of Wednesday…

🌘 With tonight’s eclipse to investigate, the Pour House Runners are running wild. Literally. We believe they’re heading up towards Roundway for this evening’s adventure.

🍺 For those of us whose preferred form of exercise involves lifting a glass approximately 30cm from table to mouth, the bar is open 4–9pm as usual.

And finally…

Remember yesterday’s secret mission?

It went very, very well.

That’s all you’re getting for now. 👀🔥

Saturday is going to be tasty…

But first: QUIZZERS, ASSEMBLE!

Get yourselves registered before lunchtime and hopefully we’ll be putting your brains through their paces tomorrow night.

See you from 4pm. 🍻

We’re closed today. But we’re up to something… 👀

Tuesday is normally our quiet behind-the-scenes day.

Not today.

Today, Josh and I are off on a secret mission in preparation for something rather exciting happening at The Pour House on Saturday afternoon.

We’re not giving too much away just yet.

But here are your clues…

🔥 Something arrived at The Pour House a few weeks ago.

👀 Some of you may have spotted it lurking in the courtyard.

🧑‍🍳 Josh is involved.

🔥 And on Saturday, we’re firing it up.

That’s all you’re getting for now.

Today’s mission is part of the preparation because, as with most things we do, we want to have a play, learn what works, iron out the wrinkles and make sure we get it right.

So Saturday afternoon will be another soft trial of the next little development at The Pour House.

Will everything go perfectly?

Obviously.

Have you met us? 😇

We’ll tell you a little more as the week goes on, but for now, if you fancy being one of the first to see what we’ve been plotting…

Keep Saturday afternoon free.

Meanwhile, we are definitely CLOSED today.

Back tomorrow from 4–9pm, hopefully having successfully completed our mission and with all fingers, eyebrows and other essential body parts still intact.

Watch this space… 🔥👀

MONDAY. Apparently we’re doing everything. 😄

We’re normally closed on Mondays.

Today, however, somebody 🤔appears to have got a little carried away with the diary…

💬 Talk Club is meeting from 6pm.

📚 Book Club is meeting from 7pm.

If you arrive and can’t remember which one you came for, don’t panic.

We’ll point you in the right direction.

And if you’re coming to neither and just fancy starting your Monday evening with a quiet drink, that’s absolutely fine too. 🍻

Doors will be open from around 5.30pm, and everyone is welcome.

Talk Club is our men’s mental fitness group. A relaxed, supportive place to talk, listen, get things off your chest or simply be around other blokes.

Book Club is… well… books.

Although there’s usually quite a lot of talking involved there too, so frankly the potential for confusion remains quite high. 😄

And while we’re apparently cramming the entire week into Monday…

🧠 QUIZ NIGHT IS THIS THURSDAY!

If you haven’t booked your team in yet, use the link below and get yourselves sorted. It kicks off at 7pm, and it’s always a cracking night.

So that’s…

Talk Club tonight.
Book Club tonight.
The bar open tonight.
Quiz Night Thursday.

Normal Pour House stuff, really.

Right.

I’m going for a lie down in preparation.

Doors from about 5.30pm.

See you later! 🍻
