DEVIZES, WE NEED YOUR HELP ❤️
🚧 ROADWORKS ARE COMING TO THE TOWN CENTRE
Major cable works are currently planned from 12 October until 18 December.
That means weeks of disruption right through the run-up to Christmas.
And local businesses are worried.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
🎄 Christmas is one of the most important trading periods of the year for independent businesses.
After months of roadworks and traffic disruption already affecting Devizes, more works during October, November and December could mean:
⬇️ Less footfall
⬇️ More difficult access
⬇️ Fewer people stopping in town
⬇️ A difficult Christmas trading period for local businesses
For some small businesses, Christmas trading helps carry them through the quieter months.
WHERE IS THE WORK?
The planned works cover parts of:
📍 The Brittox
📍 Little Brittox
📍 W**e Street
📍 Long Street
📍 Morris Lane
📍 The Shambles
Stop/go traffic controls are planned.
That’s a lot of our town centre.
WE’RE NOT AGAINST THE WORK
Let’s be clear:
⚡ We understand that essential electricity infrastructure needs to be maintained and upgraded.
We’re not asking for essential work to be cancelled.
We’re asking whether it really needs to happen during the busiest and most important trading period of the year.
Could it be moved to a quieter period, such as January?
WE HAVE QUESTIONS
Local businesses want to understand:
❓ Who agreed the dates?
❓ What consultation took place with affected businesses and landlords?
❓ Why weren’t traders directly involved before the schedule was agreed?
❓ If the work cannot be postponed, what will be done to protect access to the town and local businesses?
We believe businesses deserve clear answers.
