Learning Disability Week: Lifeskills, Teamwork, and Brilliant Smiles! 💙🍔

As we continue to celebrate this week's theme, we wanted to share a look behind the scenes at what everyday inclusion and growth look like here at Aspace2.

Just look at these brilliant photos! 📸 Our trainees have been getting hands-on in the kitchen, preparing food and building essential practical skills.

Here is what these moments represent for our community:

Lifeskills in Action: Learning to prepare meals safely and independently is a massive step towards building a self-sufficient future.

Teamwork: Whether it is passing the burger buns, prepping the tomatoes, or helping a friend assemble their lunch, working together builds incredible communication skills and lasting friendships.

Pure Enjoyment: The smiles say it all! Learning and growing should always be a fun, rewarding, and positive experience.

At the very heart of what we do is a simple promise: we see each individual for who they are, we listen to what they want to achieve, and we focus on what we can do to support them in reaching those goals.

Whether it is mastering a new recipe, gaining workplace confidence, or simply having a great time with friends, we are here to champion every single milestone.

"Do you see me?" 👀🌟 This Learning Disability Week, we are incredibly proud to shine a spotlight on the brilliant Sarah-Louise!
Most days, you can find Sarah-Louise working quietly and diligently at The Factory Floor. She is always on hand to ensure our customers are happy, keeping everything spotless and making sure there is always a clean, welcoming table ready for the next person. 🍽️✨

But what you might not know is that The Factory Floor is also deeply committed to using sustainable products! 🌱 Our team works incredibly closely with the horticulture project to grow fresh produce that goes straight into our kitchen.

Sarah-Louise plays a vital role across both of these projects! As you can see from her fantastic harvest here, she works hands-on in the garden and then brings that knowledge straight back to the cafe, ensuring our catering team knows exactly where our fresh produce comes from. 🧅🚜

This past year has seen huge personal development for Sarah-Louise, and we are absolutely delighted to see her thriving, learning, and growing in confidence every single day.

Keep up the amazing work, Sarah-Louise! We are so lucky to have you on the team. 👏💚

In celebration of Learning Disability Week, we are so excited to introduce you to the wonderful Andrew!

Andrew has a real zest for life and is already a very keen artist . Recently, he told us he wanted to take on a brand new challenge: learning how to cook and bake! 🧑‍🍳

Here at Aspace2, we were more than ready to help him smash this goal. Alongside our employability catering school, our fantastic life skills team has been busy supporting Andrew in the kitchen.

As you can see from the photos, he has been getting stuck right in—from rolling and cutting out pastry to cooking up a storm on the hob!

The best part? Andrew's ultimate goal is to master these brilliant new skills so he can show them off to his sister at home.
We are incredibly proud of your progress, Andrew. Keep up the amazing work! 👏

This Learning Disability Week, the theme is “Do You See Me?” encouraging us to look beyond labels and recognise the skills, talents, and potential of people with learning disabilities.
At The Factory Floor at Aspace2, we see ability not disability.
We see aspiring chefs learning new recipes and techniques.
We see baristas mastering coffee-making skills.
We see team members developing confidence, independence, and workplace experience.
We see individuals discovering their strengths, building friendships, and taking pride in their achievements.
Every day, our Catering School provides opportunities for people with learning disabilities and ASD to gain practical skills, work as part of a team, and prepare for future employment. Behind every coffee served, every meal prepared, and every customer welcomed is a person with talent, determination, and ambition.
When you visit The Factory Floor, you’re not just enjoying great food and drink you’re supporting a community where people are seen, valued, and given the opportunity to shine.

From scratch to the counter! 🥧 Take a peek behind the scenes in the kitchen with Jack today.

He rolled this pastry case completely from scratch, prepped the fresh fillings, and baked this quiche to absolute perfection. 👨‍🍳

Jack is working hard to master his baking skills right here at Factory Floor @ ASPACE2, and we couldn't be prouder of the result.

At Aspace2, our Employability Skills Pathway is all about unlocking potential, building confidence, and learning real-world skills—and our latest cohort of barista trainees are absolutely crushing it!

From mastering the perfect espresso extraction to frothing milk like absolute pros, these guys are working incredibly hard behind the coffee machine. Learning to navigate a busy cafe environment takes focus, teamwork, and dedication, and we could not be prouder of the passion and enthusiasm they bring to every single shift.

They aren’t just making great coffee; they are building a bright future, one cup at a time!
