OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Over recent weeks there has been considerable discussion and speculation regarding Wonky Kettle, the Firebird Centre and the future of the project.
Until now, we have deliberately limited our public comments.
This has not been due to a lack of transparency, but because there has been an ongoing legal matter connected to the site which does not directly involve Wonky Kettle or The Larder Table Ltd. On professional advice, it would not have been appropriate for us to comment publicly whilst those matters remained ongoing.
What we can confirm is that the matters in question relate to the occupation of the building and ongoing discussions regarding its future operation.
We have not been made aware of any issues relating to fire safety, building safety or any other safety concerns that directly affect Wonky Kettle, despite reports and speculation suggesting otherwise.
For clarity, Wonky Kettle operates under The Larder Table Ltd, which is a separate legal entity from other organisations operating from the site.
For further clarity, neither Wonky Kettle nor The Larder Table Ltd is the leaseholder of the Firebird Centre building.
Whilst we had intended to operate Wonky Kettle from the site, decisions relating to the leasehold, occupation and management of the building are matters for the relevant parties involved.
As many people will already be aware, the Firebird Centre is not currently operating from the building whilst discussions regarding the future of the building continue. As a business that had planned to operate from the premises, this has inevitably impacted our own plans and timelines.
As a result, much of the information circulating online has been incomplete, inaccurate or based on assumption rather than confirmed fact.
I would like to make a few things clear-
Firstly, we take our responsibilities to members of the Wonky Founders Club extremely seriously. Every person who supported this project placed their trust in us and we do not take that trust lightly.
The funds received through the Wonky Founders Club remain within The Larder Table Ltd, completely safe.
Over the next week, we will be contacting all Founders Club members directly by email and providing a full update on the current position and next steps.
Like many of you, we are extremely disappointed by the situation that has unfolded. A huge amount of time, effort, money and passion has gone into bringing Wonky Kettle to life, and naturally the recent uncertainty has been frustrating for everyone involved.
We are currently assessing all available options and carefully considering the best path forward for the project, our founders and the wider community.
No final decision has been made regarding the future direction of the project and it would be premature to speculate further until that assessment has been completed.
Our priority is not simply opening a café as quickly as possible. Our priority is creating something sustainable, successful and built on solid foundations, giving it the greatest possible chance of long term success.
We appreciate that people have questions and we understand why. However, important decisions must be made carefully and based on verified information rather than speculation.
We would respectfully remind people that allegations, rumours and unverified claims published online can have serious consequences for individuals, families and small businesses. We welcome genuine questions and constructive discussion, but ask that information is shared responsibly and accurately.
If you have any direct questions regarding this statement, or if you are a Founders Club member and want to get in touch please contact us at [email protected]
We will respond to enquiries as soon as reasonably possible and appreciate your patience whilst communications with founders and supporters are completed.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has supported Wonky Kettle, believed in the vision and shown patience throughout what has been a challenging and unexpected situation.
Further updates will be provided when appropriate.
