The Post Room, Deal The Post Room, Deal is a coffee and brunch bar at Deal railway station on the beautiful East Kent coast.

The Post Room is a coffee and brunch bar based in the seaside town of Deal's train station. Serving delicious coffee, breakfasts, cake and cold drinks from the bright and early time of 6am (9am on Saturdays), until 12.30pm.

It is with sadness that after 4 happy years, we have decided to close The Post Room permanently.

This has not been an easy decision to make as we have loved every early morning in our tiny commuter cafe, but unfortunately Covid has made it impossible for us to reopen or see a future for the business.

The ‘perfect storm’ of incredibly low passenger numbers, advice against eating and drinking on public transport and the insistence of our landlords for us to continue to pay rent throughout this time has led us to decide that closing down is the only viable route.

I personally would like to thank every customer who has walked through our doors over the last 4 years. We have loved chatting & laughing with you at 5.30am. I also want to say a huge thank you to the awesome team to which the Post Room owes everything. Most of the staff have been with me since we opened the doors and they are simply the most amazing bunch of women.

️As many of you know, throughout much of these crazy times we’ve managed to keep our sister cafe going with thanks to the heroic efforts of the team and we’re excited to throw all our energy into making that bigger and better in the future. So if anyone needs us, we’ll be on the beach...

Happy 4th Birthday Post Room! While being closed isn’t exactly how we saw our birthday playing out, we are proud of how far we have come nevertheless, the things we have achieved as a team and the friends we have made along the way. The first week we opened 4 years ago, the trains had stopped running thanks to a landslide in Dover and we were taking about £20 a day in sales. We were uncertain of our future then, but we adapted and overcame - and our hope is that our little coffee shop like so many others across the country will be able to rise up from this and be serving up delicious brews and brekkies again in the future. Thank you to all our wonderful customers & suppliers who have supported us over the years - we hope you are all keeping safe. Until we meet again 🥳☕️ @ Deal, Kent

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have closed the Post Room today. We are unsure at this time what this means for the staff or the future of the business itself as uncertainty and confusion over insurance and grants continues. We are devastated it has come to this.

We would like to thank our customers for all their support, especially those who have continued to make getting a coffee part of their working from home routine over the last few weeks and kept us going this long.

I personally would like to thank the amazing team behind the Post Room who have worked tirelessly and with unbelievable positivity, flexibility and understanding throughout this whole unprecedented situation. They are incredible people that I am proud to call my colleagues and friends, which is what makes this whole thing even more distressing. There is obviously no ‘working from home’ option for those in our industry so it is a very worrying time for all of us.

We are still opening our sister cafe on the beach in Walmer as it is outside and take away only, and will continue to do so as long as government guidelines allow.

We, like every other small business, hope to bounce back from this, bigger and better than ever. Take care of one another and see you all on the other side! Lots of love, Kate & team Post Room ###

UPDATED OPENING HOURS: Because of the dramatic drop in the number of people getting the train, we are having to reduce our opening hours from today. We will now be open 5.40am-10.30am for the time being and will be cutting back on the food on offer to limit waste. We hope people understand this is sadly out of necessity and we are really sorry if this causes any inconvenience for our lovely customers who are still travelling. Our sister cafe is open on the beach this week Tuesday - Sunday, so you can find us down there for the rest of the day and we will be offering brunch delivery (see previous posts for menu). We have decided to open up more this week - Tuesday to Sunday, 9am-4pm (all being well!) We are outside on the beach with lots of deck chairs - so you can get some fresh air and pick up a coffee and lots of lovely homemade cakes, sausage rolls, quiches and snacks. We are also happy to deliver to people who can’t get out in the Deal area, so please send us a message if you or someone you love is in need and we can see what we can do to help 🥰
