🏡 Did you know?

The Royal Arms is thought to be around 200–250 years old. Originally built as two traditional Lancashire stone cottages, the buildings were later joined together to create the welcoming pub we know today.

Many of the original features, including the stone walls, flagged floors and fireplaces, have been preserved, giving visitors a glimpse of traditional Lancashire architecture.

Its location has historic importance. The pub stands in Ryal Fold, Tockholes, an area that has been a stopping point for travellers, farmers and later walkers for generations. Today it's close to the historic Roddlesworth reservoirs and Darwen Tower, both landmarks dating back to the Victorian era.

The name "Royal Arms" refers to the Royal Coat of Arms rather than a royal residence. Many English pubs adopted names based on heraldry centuries ago, when pub signs were used to identify inns for people who couldn't read.

Our Kitchen is open from 12 noon today. Why not try our rag pudding with delicious beef dripping chips, or if youre just in need of a snack our chilli loaded fries are just the thing to hit the spot.

Good morning. Due to essential maintenance being carried out. Our kitchen will not open on Wednesday as advertised. We will open for drinks at 3pm. Normal service will resume at 12 noon on Thursday. Sorry for any inconvenience
