Before the coffee…there were trams🚋☕️🤎
Over 120 years ago, our little building had a completely different purpose - welcoming the people of Darwen as one of the town’s iconic tramway waiting rooms 🫶🏼
No lattes. No matcha. No cakes. No 1617. 🥹
Just people coming and going, meeting, waiting and passing through.
Fast forward more than a century and the trams may have gone… but the people never did❤️
Today, this beautiful little piece of Darwen history is home to 1617 Coffee House - still welcoming people through its doors, just for a slightly different reason.
Then, somewhere to wait 🕰️
Now, somewhere to stay ☕️
For coffee. For cake. For catch-ups. For a familiar face. For community.
We feel incredibly lucky that we get to write the next little chapter in the story of this building.
Same little building. A whole new chapter.
