Half Moon Inn – World Cup Prediction League Final

Just before the World Cup kicked off, we organised a Prediction League where players predicted the result of every match in the 2026 world cup, with half the participants knocked out after each round.

From 72 players, only four made it all the way to tonight’s final:

Chris Vallis Cameron Brassel Colin Stainsby Jack Raine

They’ve battled through every stage, scoring points based on prediction accuracy: 6 points – exact score 4 points – correct result + correct goal difference 2 points – correct result, so well done to all four

Tonight’s World Cup final will decide the winners of the prize pot:

1st – £150 2nd – £100 3rd – £38

Here are the finalists’ predictions for the big match:

• Colin: 1–1
• Cameron: 2–1 Argentina
• Chris: 2–0 Spain
• Jack: 2–1 Spain

Just before the World Cup kicked off, we created 48 blind envelopes, each hiding one of the tournament teams. For £5, you could buy an envelope without knowing who you’d be following, and once they were all sold, we opened them to reveal everyone’s team for the competition.

It’s been brilliant watching people get behind their teams, and tonight’s final is especially exciting for two of our players:

Janet Marchie drew Spain and Emma Beardwell drew Argentina. If Spain win, Janet takes home £125 and Emma wins £75. If Argentina win, Emma will claim the top prize instead.

Commiserations to Geoff and Snowy, who had England and France, both missing out by the narrowest of margins. And special thanks to Stuart Prize for organising

Thanks to your support, £40 will be donated to the Half Moon restoration project, helping us keep Darlington’s oldest pub alive and thriving.

Curry Night - Monday 27 July, 6:30pm

Hi everyone,

Back in April we held a beer, wine and curry night at the pub and it went down really well. We’re doing it again on Monday 27 July, with delicious food supplied by our friends at Arvelli. Last time all 22 places were snapped up quickly, so don’t hang about if you fancy it

How it works:

• Arrive from 6:30pm

• Food delivered at 7:00pm

• £20 per person (menu price £18.95, rounded up to include a small tip for the restaurant)

• Pub provides cutlery and plates

• You buy your own drinks at the bar

If you’d like to come, just drop us a quick message. We’ll send you the set menu for you can choose your starter, main, rice and naan.
