THE END OF AN ERA
YES… THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE.
After 7 unforgettable years, the time has finally come to say goodbye to Bernie’s Bar.
Back in 2019, we opened those doors and started a journey that became so much more than just a pub. Seven years of laughs, tears, ups, downs, friendships, celebrations, crazy nights and memories that will stay with us forever.
We’ve had charity nights, parties, events, fancy dress, karaoke, bingo, quizzes, New Year’s Eve parties and so many nights that probably shouldn’t be talked about! 😂.
And of course, a massive thank you to John Brady, who has been there from the very beginning. Week after week, year after year, John has entertained us, put up with us and become such a massive part of Bernie’s Bar. And to every other entertainer who has walked through our doors over the years, thank you for coming along and entertaining our dysfunctional family weekend after weekend. You’ve all helped create the atmosphere, the laughs and the memories that made this place what it was.
One thing I will always be incredibly proud of is what Bernie’s Bar and our customers have given back to the community. Over the years we’ve supported Clydebank Women’s Aid, Calum’s Cabin, Care Home Comfort Funds, Golden Friendship, West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare, Growing Beardmore Community Gardens, Erskine Home, Easter Egg Appeal and Christmas Toy Bank Drive, just to name a few. From collecting Easter eggs to helping make Christmas a little brighter for families, our customers always showed how big their hearts were. And who could forget The Full Monty! 😂🙈 A night when some of our customers stripped off to their… well, let’s just say nearly their birthday suits! 😂 Definitely one of those nights that will go down in Bernie’s Bar history!
But sadly, our journey also brought the hardest moment of all. We lost our Bernie — my mum. Bernie’s Bar was her name, her place and her legacy. There will always be a piece of her in these walls, in the memories and in the people who knew her. That’s why closing these doors feels like so much more than closing a pub. It really is the end of an era.
And then there’s TEAM B. To every single member of my team, whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you’ve only joined us recently, thank you. You’ve all played your own part in this story. You’ve worked the busy nights, the quiet nights, the late nights, the parties, the events and all the madness that came with Bernie’s Bar. You’ve laughed with me, cried with me, listened to me, put up with me and most importantly, stood beside me.
And thank you for keeping your mouths shut when the time came. I know customers asked questions and you were put in a difficult position, having to answer without giving anything away. That wasn’t your decision to make, but you respected me, respected the situation and kept it to yourselves until the time was right. I will never forget that.
Some of you have become much more than colleagues. You’ve become friends and, in many ways, family. I genuinely couldn’t have done this without you.
And then, of course, our customers. Where would Bernie’s Bar have been without you? Honestly, I don’t think you could find a better bunch anywhere. You have been absolutely brilliant. You’ve been there through everything — the birthdays, engagements, celebrations, Christmases, New Year’s Eve parties, parties and nights of absolute madness, but also through the difficult times. We’ve shared the sadness of losing people we loved, funerals, wakes, tears and days when the pub was somewhere to come because you knew somebody would understand.
We’ve been there for the celebrations, the deaths and everything in between.
That’s what made Bernie’s Bar special. It was never just about the drinks. It was about the people. It was about knowing faces, knowing names, having a laugh, having a moan, checking in on each other and being there when somebody needed it. Somewhere along the way, our customers stopped being just customers. You became part of the family.
Some of you have been with us since 2019. Some joined us along the way. But every single person who walked through those doors has left a little piece of themselves behind, and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever find another bunch like you.
So before we turn that key for the final time, come down this weekend. Bring your friends, raise a glass, have one last laugh, share a memory and, if there are tears, let them come.
Because after seven years, Bernie’s Bar deserves one hell of a goodbye.
Sunday 27th September 2026 — our doors close for the final time.
The bar will close. The signs will come down. But the memories, friendships, stories and people we’ve met along the way will never disappear.
BERNIE’S BAR — 2019–2026
7 YEARS OF MEMORIES!!
To Bernie. To Team B. To every entertainer. To every customer. And to every single person who was part of this mad, beautiful, dysfunctional journey…
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
Peace out. ✌️
