Our Back Kitchen ☺️

We bake our cakes, cookies, cupcakes & traybakes on the premises. We use the best ingredients possible including milk, butter & eggs from the local farm.

Small batches, traditional recipes. And heaps of love baked into every cake ❤️

Our star baker is Anne. And it happens to be her birthday TODAY!

She will be in the studio finishing off a cake but you can also wish her a Happy Birthday in the comments 💐🎁🥂

BIG QUESTION 🤨

Why did NO ONE ask for a slice of this incredible Biscoff Cake yesterday?!

We are absolutely baffled. It looks stunning and will taste amazing ☺️

It’s back on the counter this morning. We also have fresh Cherry Bakewell slices, Cornish Pudding, Brownies, Victoria Sponge, Coffee & Walnut, Lemon Curd & School Sponge.

We would love to see you so do pop in if you’re free and treat yourself to something special ❤️

Thank you also to Herts Police who are taking this seriously and investigating. We’re hopeful the CCTV images and fingerprints obtained will lead to those responsible being found and stopped from doing this again.

Most of all thank you again to our community for the many lovely messages. For the suggestions and offers of help.

This incident has taken time and money. If you do find yourself in Croxley, and in need of coffee or cake, please pop in and make a purchase!

When we leave The Kitchen at the end of the day …

Freshly baked cakes sit in their sealed containers ready for the counter tomorrow ❤️

Today has been very quiet. So more bakes than usual are waiting for you to enjoy tomorrow. We’d love to welcome you either to relax in our tearoom or to takeaway some treats ❤️

For now though… it’s time for The Great British Bake Off

Which relative do you enjoy baking with? For me it’s always been my mum, then my daughters and daughter in law, but my granddaughters are catching up fast ❤️

Baked cheesecake is on the Bake Off menu tonight. Watch this space 😉

Hi everyone. A very big hello and warm welcome to those of you who’ve just started following us - it’s lovely to have you here ☺️

Many of you joined us after seeing the photo of the graffiti on our shutter this weekend. If you missed it I’ll post it below but for the very last time as (no offence to the artists) I think it’s pretty ugly 😡

We had hundreds of comments & messages, from as far away as Fiji! Thank you ALL ☺️

I tried to reply to everyone as I really appreciated you taking the time to get in touch. If I didn’t manage to then I’m sorry - and thank you, I’m grateful to you all.

We DO have CCTV at The Kitchen. It clearly captured the perpetrators and is in the hands of Herts Police.

We had SOCO spend Sunday afternoon with us. They have more evidence thanks to a sharp eyed neighbour.

We were one of many businesses and places targeted at the weekend. If you were also affected then I share your pain 😥

Thank you for all the offers of help cleaning the shutter. Mr Kitchen was busy with his paintbrush last night (sadly not a masterpiece this time 😉)

We will deal with the brickwork shortly, hopefully all traces and tags will be gone soon 🙏🏻

Many of you suggested a mural or graffiti art on the shutter. Definitely something to consider 🤔

Most of all though I wanted to use this post to respond to you all and reply to your questions. I hope you picked us from my previous post that The Kitchen is full of beautiful artwork. We would love you to visit and purchase a painting, print, card or gift.

And of course if you haven’t yet tried our home made cakes and coffee, or joined us for lunch, then we’d love you to do so. Open 9am - 5pm, walk ins always welcome or call us to make a booking.

Seriously?

Who thought it would be a good idea to do this?

If you enjoy art, painting, expressing yourself creatively, then surely there are better ways to do it?

Look inside The Kitchen for inspiration. We have Lilly’s stunning Autumn mural behind the counter. Fran’s beautiful pictures and prints featuring local pubs and places.

Or how about Rachel’s gorgeous handmade gifts and cards?
You could join us on a Thursday for Sholee’s watercolour class maybe.

Art comes in many forms. Cake decorating is one of them! And so is the knitting and crochet our Thursday group create.

We also welcome many parents while their children attend classes at Art-K

Further afield, I’m a fan of Leake Street (look it up if you’re not familiar with it). Let’s be honest too, Banksy has made a
bit of a name for himself… 🎈

But this? Seriously?

It’s ugly - I’m sorry but does anyone disagree?

It’s also been done without permission, on someone else’s property.

As I don’t like it, I’ll spend time and money removing it. When I could be making cakes (or catching up on Bake Off😉)

So if this was you (if you’re reading this then I doubt it was) Or if you’re thinking of doing something similar can I just stop you right there.

Please don’t.

It’s not clever, and it’s not creative. It’s actually classed as criminal damage.

Find something else to do at a quarter to one on a Sunday morning 😡

Wow! And there I was thinking it was 75p!

Friends often ask if we’re busy and thankfully we are - a lot of the time. (At other times however we can be really, really quiet …)

The thing is though, it’s not the money coming in that’s the issue (most of the time…)

It’s what goes out, and on top of the crazy cost of fuel (and many of our ingredients…) much of this is taxation.

Which is why we are thankful to UKHospitality and others speaking up for our sector.

We believe hospitality is vital not just to the economy but also to communities. Let us know if you agree and what you think needs to happen. I’ll use your thoughts in my next message to Gagan Mohindra and Andy Burnham
