This month we’re celebrating Tom Paine, a robust, dry-hopped pale ale now brewed by Harvest Brewery.

The beer takes its name from Thomas “Tom” Paine, the famous political writer and champion of liberty, who worked as an Excise Officer in Lewes between 1768 and 1774 before writing Rights of Man. Harvey’s Brewery originally created the beer 25 years ago as a special brew to mark American Independence Day, celebrating both Paine’s revolutionary spirit and the independence of Britain’s family brewers. It also became one of the first successful seasonal ales, available for just one month each year. (harveys.org.uk⁠)

Today, Harvest Brewery continues that tradition, producing this award-winning 5.5% pale ale with its rich malt character, floral hop aroma and satisfyingly dry, bitter finish.
