New to the butchers counter at Hartley… 🤎

We’re now stocking wild venison from Sustainable Meat Eater, a family-run East Sussex business producing wild venison from the Sussex and Surrey countryside, with responsible deer management at the heart of what they do.

We’ve got wild venison sausages, wild Fallow mince, chops and loin steaks in the counter; a few different ways to enjoy this delicious, locally sourced meat.

And with October being National Sausage Month, we’re celebrating with a different sausage each week throughout the month.

This Saturday, come and try the wild venison sausages from Sustainable Meat Eater at the butchers counter… We’ll have tasters available, so pop in and give them a try!

New delights at Hartley… 🤎

From salted caramel Falcon jugs and Marie Rose tumblers, to neon pumpkins for a little Halloween fun; there are plenty of new things to discover around the Farm Shop.

For the sweet-toothed, we’ve got plant-based sweets from Sweet Lounge, beautiful chocolates from Audrey’s and all-butter biscuits from Elegant & English. 😋

And for the kitchen, Honest Toil extra virgin olive oil is delicious drizzled over salads, used in dressings or simply poured over our sourdough… also, a moment for the pretty packaging! 😍

Pop in and have a browse; there’s always something new to spot. 🤎

A sunny weekend at Hartley…. ☀️

The butchers counter is stocked for the weekend, there’s fresh sourdough from the bakery, the deli is full of treats and new things to discover, and plenty of nuts and nibbles to pick up for an evening in. 🥂

And then there are Keith’s doughnuts… all the flavours, and definitely a weekend must-have! 🍩

If you’re staying for a coffee or lunch, make the most of our autumn drinks menu and the orchard views while the sunshine is here. 🍂

Weekend comforts at Hartley…. 🐽

A sprinkling of autumn colours are creeping into the Farm Shop, with pumpkins and Halloween decorations making an appearance!

There’s a pumpkin-shaped Cheddar in the deli too, blackberry compote and yoghurt waffles coming out of the Coffee House, and plenty of seasonal goodness in the shop, including purple sprouting broccoli and beetroot. Both are packed with vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants, so there’s plenty of goodness to go alongside all the weekend treats (like these biscoff doughnuts!)

We’ve also had some lovely new wines arrive, including Meursault Clos des Corvées de Citeau 2018 from Burgundy and La Dame de Montrose 2011 from Saint-Estèphe… two very different wines, but both rather good choices for a weekend bottle.

And then there are the pigs, donkeys and goats outside, who are always happy to provide a little entertainment while you’re here. (Swipe to the end) 🐖

A few favourites from the butchers counter… 🔪

For a relaxed weekend lunch, there’s pork belly, perfect for slow roasting until the fat renders down and the meat is beautifully tender, or pork loin steaks for something a little quicker.

Lamb shoulder and leg of lamb are both great choices for a Sunday roast, while our prepared stuffed chicken thighs and Hunters chicken make an easy midweek supper.

NEW to the counter this week, we’ve also got free-range chickens, and our Wagyu steaks have been selling particularly well!

There are also plenty of stir-fries ready to cook, alongside our homemade sausages….just right for a proper toad in the hole.

Autumn is looking rather good in the Farm Shop… 🍎

Local apples and blackberries, crisp red and white chicory, sweet potatoes, seasonal squashes and lovely pink rhubarb are all making an appearance.

The kind of ingredients that lend themselves to warming suppers, roasted veg, hearty salads and plenty of fruit crumbles… simple seasonal food that makes the most of what’s around now.

Friday evenings are coming to Hartley… 🍂

On the last Friday of every month, we’ll be opening the Coffee House from 5.30–8.30pm for a special Friday evening menu, with a new menu to enjoy each month.

We’re starting on Friday 25th September with our Autumn Evening Menu, featuring a selection of dishes including pecan-dusted baked Camembert with our sourdough baguette, 8oz fillet steak from our butchers with chips and peppercorn sauce, the Hartley cheeseburger and creamy butternut squash & sage risotto, alongside more dishes and desserts…. a selection of delicious wines will also be available.

Autumn has definitely arrived at the Coffee House… 🍂

This week’s plates have been full of warming flavours and a few autumn favourites…Porridge topped with baked apple, pecan, cinnamon sugar and pumpkin seeds, maple bacon waffles, and prawn toast served with pickled cucumber and radish salad.

And then there’s the cake… beetroot & rose and lime & coconut, both gluten free, with a warming turmeric flat white to go alongside.

Add the autumn colours outside, late summer sunshine. and we think it’s a pretty good place to spend an hour or two.

Sourdough September at Hartley….. 🍞🥖

Our sourdough is made right here at the Farm shop, by our head baker, Keith…. with time, care and plenty of experience going into every loaf.

Sourdough is naturally fermented, which can make it easier to digest than some breads, and the fermentation process can also improve the availability of certain nutrients. Plus, there’s really nothing quite like a proper crusty loaf, still warm from the bakery!

September is Sourdough September, so we’re giving Keith’s loaves a little extra love this month. 🤎

What’s your favourite way to eat sourdough? Toasted with butter, topped with something savoury, or straight from the loaf with a generous drizzle of olive oil?
