It’s been all systems go at the Crown & Crossed Swords HQ , lunch has had a glow up! 🔥🧣

Just in time for the colder months, we’ve been busy behind the scenes putting together a brand new lunch menu we’ve kept some of your favourites, adding plenty of new dishes and bringing in some proper autumn comfort food.

🏆 Winner will be announced Tuesday 6th October.

Well what an afternoon that turned out to be ♥️🎙️

Seeing our little bar so full for Fraser was just lovely. People squeezed In, singing along and most importantly enjoying themselves.

We’re in it, AGAIN! 🍺🎉

We’re absolutely delighted (and very proud!) to say that for the second year running, the Crown & Crossed Swords has been listed in the CAMRA Good B**r Guide 2027.

Being included last year meant a huge amount to us, but to make it in for a second year feels that little bit more special. It tells us we’re continuing to get something right.

The Guide is the ultimate cask b**r lover's bible, produced by people that drink it, for those who are seeking out the best possible pints.

Using an independent, volunteer-led selection process, it remains the authoritative and trusted voice of cask b**r drinkers in the UK.

Massive credit to Stephen, our brilliant cellarman whose dedication to quality and passion for real ale, with very high standards & pride in keeping our lines exceptionally clean has driven this success for a second year 👏

If you haven't yet tried our cask ales (or our famous Steak & Ale pie!), now's the time.

We are truly grateful & humbled by the support of each and every one of you who visit us & our barman & barmaids who keep our standards high! ❤️🍺

We might be a little late with this one, but we couldn’t let Dolly Day pass without sharing this. ❤️

Dolly has said a lot of lovely things over the years, but this one means a little more to us:

“If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.”

It’s something we’ve always tried to remind our team of here at the Crown.

You never really know what’s brought someone through the door that day. They might be celebrating something wonderful, they might have had the worst day, or they might simply have come in hoping to see a familiar face and have a little chat.

That’s why we’ve always believed the small things matter. A smile. A hello. Remembering someone’s usual. Asking how they are and actually listening to the answer.

We’re very lucky to have a team who do those things every day, often without even realising they’re doing them.

So we may be ending Dolly Day rather than starting it, but perhaps that’s quite a nice thought to end the day on.

If you’ve got a smile to give, give it. You never know who might need it. ❤️

A huge thank you to CAMRA Durham for joining us last night for a few b**rs.

For anyone who may not know, CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) has been championing real ale and c***r, supporting pubs and protecting Britain’s pub culture for more than 50 years. 🍺

With local branches across the country, CAMRA brings together people who appreciate well-kept b**r and c***r, great pubs and the important part they play in our communities.

So it was a real pleasure to welcome CAMRA Durham through our doors! 🍻

🥾And if you're part of a local club, society, walking group or organisation looking for somewhere to meet and have a drink we'd love to welcome you too!

We get asked this one a lot… 😂🇳🇿🍇

And yes… of course it is! 🙌🏾

Our Nika Tiki Sauvignon Blanc comes all the way from Marlborough, New Zealand.

It comes to us through Lanchester Wines, another family-run business just down the road in Annfield Plain. We love that the w**e may travel halfway around the world, but the final part of its journey is so local.

And where is it best enjoyed?

Who remembers Fraser’s first gig in our b**r garden? What a night that was definitely one we’ll always remember! 🎶

Fraser is already a familiar face to many of you from working in our restaurant, but this Sunday he’ll be swapping work for the microphone and treating us to another brilliant live performance.

This time, we’re bringing the music indoors for a cosy Sunday session in the main bar. Come along, grab a drink and show Fraser the amazing support you always do.

It’s been ages since we’ve enjoyed live music on a Sunday so we’re really looking forward to it this week🍻
