We are deeply saddened to have lost ex 1 Para veteran Dave Shirt on 11th July. He was so much a part of the VC Hub that he had his own chair and side table at Caffinaafi. Para Dave was a daily visitor to the Caffi, sitting in his armchair with a brew and a grilled cheese crumpet, surrounded by his friends and adored by our canine regulars Max and Tai.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Para Dave’s family. He is greatly missed by so many and very much loved by the VC Hub / Caffinaafi community. It has been a privilege to know him for the last 3.5 years, and an honour to spend so much time in his company.

Details for Para Dave’s funeral are below:

The Funeral and celebration of the life of Dave Shirt will take place at the Flintshire Memorial Park and Crematorium; https://www.flintshirememorial.co.uk/ at 1400hrs on Tuesday 04th August 2026 followed by a wake at the Red Lion, 3 High Street, Northop, Mold. CH76BQ; https://redlionnorthop.com/

All welcome, berets and medals optional but encouraged. Alternatively, Dave was a Man City Fan so City Blue is the order of the day for those not in beret and blazer.

The Veterans & Community Hub CIC are delighted to host this Chocolate Day event to help raise funds for the Peter McFerran Fund.

Senior Aircraftman Peter McFerran died while serving with the RAF Regiment in Iraq in 2007. Since then, his mother Ann has spent almost two decades fundraising in his memory to support the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital where Peter was born.

Please help this amazing and valuable cause by following the link below and making a donation. Or alternatively please visit us on the day.
