Who's ready for our September events?!

We're starting back into the Autumn season slowly so far and CANNOT wait to bring back Journal Club with Nuala of Nuala | journaling workshops. It's perfect for the chance to lean into the slower Autumn season and take the time out to reflect and take stock. You'll find the link for tickets in our bio/stories etc

As usual we have something for everyone...

It might be the end of August, but we will run our Summer Drinks for one more week.

So this is your cue to get in before they disappear.

We've been so pleased how this batch of Signature Drinks have landed with you all, there's really been something for everyone.

Even the Siciliano that we knew would be our 'marmite' type drink has some real die hard fans. And I also love to see how well the Hojicha specials go down.

If you have any suggestions for our next batch of Autumn seasonal drinks we'd love to hear them. Let us know in the comments 🥰

This weekend Duncan is holding down the fort at the Tea Bar.

Áine is for Electric Picnic to support Cass who many of you will know from our Open Mic Poetry Nights. Cass has been invited to perform a poetry set during the festival and we are immensely proud of her! 

If you're about over the next few days, pop in to see Duncan to show your love and help keep him sane 😅

We do ask for your patience if things do prove a little chaotic, we have staffed up but sometimes you just never know how things will go. 

AND if you have any music recommendations or must see bands for EP let us know!

Bann in a Bubble is always a crowd favourite at the Tea Bar.

It's made with chewy tapioca pearls, it's a wonderful violet flavour, the blue comes from blue butterfly pea flower that's sometimes called blue matcha and we love how much yis are here for it!!!

We first launched it in the old Tea Bar and have been bringing it back every year since.

BYFP: Bring Your Favourite Poet!

This Saturday's Open Mic Poetry Night is an opportunity to share the poems that inspire you!

Alongside your own poems, Arts @ Infuse invites you to bring to the mic the poems that matter to you.

Great for beginners who aren't ready to share their own work yet - just bring a poem you care about, and share the love!

You can perform 1-3 poems (usually) on the the night.

Poetry nights have become so wholesome and beautiful that we find it really hard to not run them each month, they honestly do the heart & soul good.

If you've never been and want something different to do with your Friday evening, then come join us.

Doors open from 7pm and the night starts not too long after.

You can sign up on the night and even during the night if you decide you're game, there's never any pressure.

This one means a lot to us, more than we probably say out loud most of the time.

It wasn't planned this way, but the majority of our staff turned out to be neurodivergent in some form. Duncan reckons he's probably AuDHD. And Áine, we used to joke her "quirks" were just trauma, turns out that's probably not the whole story either.

So when we say we get it, we mean it.

This is your cue to get those dates in your diary 🗓️ We've scaled things back a little over the summer, but the four nights we've held onto are honestly some of our favourites.

Wed 12th: Neurodiversity Meet-up. Come along to catch up with friends or meet some new neurospicy faces. It's a gentle, low-key one, adults only evening. There's no need to book, you just rock up.

Sat 15th: Open Mic Poetry Night, Cass would love you to bring along a poem that inspires you, and any of your own you fancy reading too. You can sign-up to read on the night, but there's no pressure at all if you'd rather just settle in and listen.

Thurs 20th: Silent Book Club. No set book, bring whatever you're into: a book, a comic, a magazine. Find a comfy corner and read. Just rock up, this one proves popular too.

Sat 22nd: Board Game Night, 7 til 10ish. We've got a shelf of games ready, or you can bring your own. Just come along on your own, or with friends. There's always some good games on the go.

Every one of these events are free to attend, every one starts at 7pm and every one with the till open for drinks and treats to order as you wish.

On Friday night, Caroline Litman sat in the Tea Bar and told us about her daughter and her book: Her name is Alice.

What we witnessed on Friday night has been hard to put into words. There was such reverence in the room, definitely goosebumps and the odd tear was shed.

Caroline was in conversation with the brilliant Kellie Turtle, a feminist activist and researcher at Ulster University.

It was not just how Caroline has become an activist and an absolute powerhouse, but it was beautiful connecting to her human side. The mother underneath it all, who carries immense grief and a righteous anger at a system that should have been there to protect Alice and was not.

Caroline never asked to be an activist. She said as much and she is uncomfortable with it. But she keeps showing up, keeps speaking, keeps being visible. At a moment when the media scapegoats trans people and the rhetoric has turned genuinely vicious, that's particularly brave. She does it so that Alice's death was not for nothing.

Caroline and her husband Peter came across the water to do a speech with Causeway Pride in Portrush. Saturday also happened to be Peter's 60th birthday. That they would spend this weekend with us is not something we will forget. So happy birthday weekend Peter, we hope that both of you have an incredible weekend.

We do also need to talk about the people who made Friday night happen...

Riley of Causeway Pride, who we have known for a while now who never stops fighting for their community. Gwen of Mams4Trans, we only met on Friday and who completely floored us. Not going to lie though, both are beyond exhausted, yet still continue to show up for their communities.

So why it matter so much to us?

Because the trans community has been part of our journey from the get go. This year we've also had the privilege of watching a favourite customer begin their own transition, right from the start. It has been both beautiful and harrowing. We've seen up close that being trans is not a choice, watched the turmoil that comes with it and we have tried our best to be a safe place for them and for their mum, through all of it. This has never been abstract or distant for us...

We said yes before we knew who she was...

Causeway Pride asked to use our space on Friday night to host Caroline Litman. We trust them, so of course we said yes. Then Caroline started cropping up on our feed, and that is where we first learned about Alice.

Alice was 20, she waited 1,023 days for a first appointment at a gender clinic. She took her own life while still on the waiting list. The coroner found her mental health support was lacking and that there was risk of future deaths without changes.

Caroline was an NHS psychiatrist for 12 years and has spoken about feeling shame at not being able to get Alice past the "gatekeepers" of mental health care. She believes her daughter could have lived a happy healthy life had she not been failed by the healthcare system that should have supported her. Caroline's book, Her Name is Alice is about that.

So join us to hear Caroline speak in person.

Kellie Turtle will be interviewing Caroline for the first half, then the floor opens for a Q&A sesh.

It's this Friday the 31st, doors open at 7pm, we start around 7:15.

Causeway Pride made this happen, and it is a huge honour that our wee space in Coleraine gets to host something like this. We have had trans customers since the very first Tea Bar, so this one sits super close to our heart.
