We’re kicking off our Coleraine series with Stevie McCarry, co-owner and Head Chef at LIR Seafood.

Stevie tells us about the journey behind LIR — from starting out as a fishmongers to becoming an award-winning seafood restaurant on the banks of the River Bann.

It’s been quite a journey along the way, and 2025 was another huge year for Stevie when he competed on the BBC’s Great British Menu, winning the Northern Ireland heat and going on to reach the finals.

A brilliant local story, a fantastic setting and a great way to start our Coleraine series.

Back then we had no idea of what we were about to embark on and little did we know the sleepless nights (still ongoing.. 🙂‍↕️) crazy hours and endless fish runs and filleting would all be worth while 💕 I wonder what the next 6 will bring.. anyone have a perfect premises for a fish mongers?! 🐟
