Well, another busy Saturday over and done with 🍻😂

It’s Sunday morning, I’ve just got up and already made the wife tea and toast. ☕🍞

Husband of the Year duties completed before 8am. I’ll be expecting some sort of award… or at the very least, peace and quiet for the rest of the day. 😂

🕵️‍♂️ Apparently there’s been a BIG secret in Coleraine…

A big Christmas market is being planned, and apparently everything was being kept very quiet. 🤫🎄

Businesses not being told. Plans being made behind the scenes.

But there’s just one problem…

I find out everything. 😂

And before anyone asks, my source is impeccable.

🐦 Bertie the pigeon told me.

He’s been sitting on rooftops, listening at windows and gathering intelligence. Nothing gets past Bertie.

On a more serious note, businesses really should be kept informed about plans that could potentially affect trade, particularly during one of the most important trading periods of the year.

I’m already emailing regarding a number of concerns and asking questions about what exactly is being planned.

Never underestimate the Coleraine pigeon network. 🐦👀🎄

Well, tomorrow starts the weekend 🍻

I’ll be in early to get a few emails sent, check in on the status of a few FOI requests I have outstanding, and get a few legalities and loose ends out of the way.

Then it’s time for the weekend!

Hopefully I’ll see plenty of locals and visitors through the doors over the next few days.

And apparently, we’re still pouring the best pint of Guinness in town... but you can come in and judge that for yourself 😉🍺

Although, to be fair, there is one thing that consistently bucks the trend…

The Causeway Speciality Market every other Saturday.

Always busy enough around the Town Hall and always bringing genuine footfall into the town centre.

Funny what happens when you give people an actual reason to come into town. 😉

Another year married and, against all odds, she still hasn’t changed the locks. 😂

They say marriage is all about love, patience, compromise and understanding. Thankfully Tina has enough of all four for both of us. 🤣

We’ve had some brilliant times, some mad times, plenty of laughs and the occasional “discussion” where I quickly discovered I was wrong.

Would I do it all again?

Absolutely.

Would Tina?

I didn’t ask. 😂

Watching Buried with Michael Sheen on iPlayer this week, I’d encourage everyone locally to watch it. It’s a sobering look at what happens when land contamination goes unaddressed — and who ends up paying the price when it does.

It’s made me think closer to home. Somerset was formerly the site of a Monsanto factory. The road works there have stalled, with no clear public explanation to date as to why.

I want to be fair here: I’m not asserting that there is contamination, or that anyone is hiding information. But given the site’s industrial history and the lack of any explanation for the delay, it’s a fair question to ask: is information being withheld, or is there simply nothing to tell?

If anyone worked at the former Monsanto site, or has knowledge of what was on that ground, I’d ask you to leave a comment below or message me directly. Residents are entitled to know one way or the other — for reasons of basic safety, not politics.

🍺 MONDAY. BANK HOLIDAY. APPARENTLY WE’RE DOING THIS AGAIN.

Saturday was absolutely mental.

Sunday was supposed to be the recovery day.

Nobody got the memo. 😂

It was busy again.

So a massive thank you to everyone who joined us over the weekend. Some of you came Saturday, some Sunday, and some appeared to treat the Queens Arms as an all-inclusive weekend resort without the accommodation. 🍻

And now it’s Bank Holiday Monday.

We’ve checked the rota and, against all sensible advice, Karen is behind the bar.

It’s already shaping up to be another busy one.

So if you’re currently thinking:

“I couldn’t face another pint after that weekend…”

Don’t worry.

Karen has heard worse lies. 😂

The Guinness is cold, Monday barely counts when it’s a Bank Holiday, and Tuesday can deal with the paperwork.

We’re only halfway through the afternoon and it’s busy already!

After yesterday being absolutely non-stop from open to close, I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who called in, had a pint, stayed for the craic and supported us. It really is appreciated. ❤️🍻

And judging by today, some of you have decided one day simply wasn’t enough. 😂

It’s the last Sunday of August, the pints are flowing, the craic is building and Monday is still far enough away to ignore.

Let’s finish the weekend properly! 🍺☀️😂
