This week our participants have been introduced to tenon joints and made this beautiful Shaker style coat rack. The Shakers had 3 principles: practicality, plainness and pride. They also believed in repurposing wood that they found lying around - that is the principle we follow at Green Light Trust too.

I think you can see the pride that has been taken in making this & we think it would make a perfect Christmas present. 🎄 💚

It’s harvest time and we need your help! We were not sure if we were going to get a crop this year as the poor summer and lack of sunshine has meant the fruit has been painfully slow to ripen . If you would like to help us please arrive at west street vineyard at 9:30 on Saturday 16th October with a pair of scissors or secateurs. If you have done it before a full briefing will be given. Once the harvest is in we will offer you a simple lunch and a glass of west street wine to say thank you. Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible

It is 8 years to the day since my husband rode a horse through Coggeshall dressed as St George to raise money for Colchester Hospital's cancer unit and to celebrate us opening our doors for the first time. Over those 8 years, we have welcomed over a quarter of a million guests, most to enjoy a lovely lunch or dinner with a glass of West Street wine on our terrace, many have got married or had their first dates or received a marriage proposal in the vines or just had a family get together, a wine tasting or for wine school. We have loved welcoming you here and sharing our love of all things wine.

It will come as no surprise that Covid has hit our business really hard. Trying to find a way to move forward over the last 12 months has nearly broken me if I am honest. The vineyard has been my saviour. Hard work inevitably, but working on the vines outside is a real privilege and my love of wine and vines is in no way lost.

We feel that West Street operating as a full-service restaurant is just no longer possible. So where next for West Street? This year is particularly difficult as there remains a great deal of uncertainty. Therefore, after lots of thought and planning, we have decided that we will open for wine tastings later on in the Summer.

We are really hopeful that a smaller slimmed-down business will be really successful from 2022 onwards. We are in the process of applying for permission to put three glamping pods on the vineyard and next year we hope to open for parties, weddings, and events using our outside space in the vineyard in the summer and our cellar in the winter. Meanwhile, we are hoping to live on the upper floors, helping us to tighten our belts, while getting us closer to the vines and the needs of our guests.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported West Street Vineyard over the last eight years. It has also been really heartening to receive the messages of support that we have received over the last year, many as we walk our lovely dog around Coggeshall.

Thank you, everyone, who has supported us in 2020 from eating out in our restaurant among the vines during the summer and then buying wine during the lockdown. It has been a very difficult year for everyone, fingers crossed for 2021. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

2020 has been a difficult year no doubt for everyone including ourselves. The pandemic has left millions of us lonely and isolated and separated from the people that we love most in the world. One of our regular guests to West Street Vineyard, Simon Isaac who has exhibited his work all over the world has been inspired to create a body of digital work called www.Davidcomehome.co.uk . This tells the story of David trying to find his way home after being separated.... It is a fabulous piece of work so resonant during these tricky times. We are delighted to announce that we won a Bronze medal in the International Wine Challenge this week for our 2018 West Street Sparkling wine grown entirely from grapes produced in West Street Coggeshall. The only vineyard in Essex to win a medal some good news in a difficult year. We are open today from 10-12 for click and collect wine sales or from our online shop www.weststreetvineyard.co.uk/shop . It makes the ideal Christmas gift.
