Congratulations to my lovely pal on the launch of a beautiful imaging of a little intimate British bistro in Hackney. Lovely and I took a trip to our old stomping ground to celebrate this mega achievement with her.

I first met my fellow short-and-curly cooking friend when she came to work at The Bull in our little town. We obviously share a love for cooking and great produce but fast realised we had completely different approaches to the way we work (and the wines we love…). I can’t speak for her but I always enjoyed this exchange of ideas because life is pretty dull without different flavours. We became firm friends, trained together and hung out a fair bit on our shared gravelly strip of road, Tom and I often waving her off to work (or me tearing up the track on the school run), in co- judging the Charlbury Bake-off we might well have hit what we all called ‘peak Charlbury’, and soon after that she found this lovely little spot, but I do miss her here!

BUT at Teal it’s really wonderful to see the embodiment of her delicious, refined British cooking coming from an audacious all female kitchen. It takes a lot of courage to do what she is doing (in the climate she’s doing it in), so I recommend and urge you to support her and her team in this delicious endeavour.

Happy New Year everyone! Got around to a bit of cooking this week, for the first time in ages.

My day job at the moment doesn’t really involve any action on the pots and pans so really nice lo luxuriate in some full on veg prep. And remember how much I love this cooking business.

Here’s what I made:
A kind of kimchi
Roast veg
Carrot and squash soup with bone broth, ginger and Tumeric
Pickled onions with warming spices
Cauliflower cheese
Cauliflower cheese with chorizo and leaves
A birthday cake! Vicky sponge with lemon curd, cream cheese and whipped cream icing and raspberries
New years roast dinner

Here’s to more of this in 2026! Wishing you a happy and peaceful year ahead.

Morning all!

Just a quick heads-up that although the Carols at are totally SOLD OUT tomorrow evening there is still an opportunity to get some last minute Christmas bits in from the Market which features some Chloe’s Flea favourites in the afternoon from 1pm-5pm.

There’s also delicious hot dogs and brisket from the excellent team, mulled wine and decorate your own hot chocolate: perfect for an end of term treat!

Hello! I hope this finds you well. As some of you might already know I am involved with setting up a new food and provisions shop at Old Bank House (the old Charlbury Deli site) with the team behind The Bull.

This is such an exciting project that I’m thrilled to be involved with. My hope is to put together an offering that appeals to both Charlburians and visitors to our lovely town. I am conscious that this will mean a varied stock, and we’re currently talking to lots of local farmers, growers and makers. We will be liaising with the Deli as they bed-in at The Corner House to navigate what produce they decide settle on too – this way we can make sure there is as much choice as possible in town.

With that in mind we’d love to have some input from you! We’re hosting a meeting to hear about the kinds of things you’d like to see. If you’re local to Charlbury and keen to give input please join us at the back room at The Bull from 7pm-8pm on Tuesday 2nd December to say hello and let us know the kinds of things you’d like us to stock. The drinks will be on us.

If you’re unable to make the meeting and want to send some thoughts or have any questions or comments do drop me a line here.
