New wine time! We've got some tasty new bottles to try out! 🍷

For the reds we've got:

Comoloco a lighter Spanish red with notes of bramble, black cherry and very minimal tannin. Works wonderfully chilled in an ice bucket. 🍒

Montes Alpha is a Carménère from Chile, a grape variety that was once thought extinct and is originally from Bordeaux but was rediscovered in Chile and has now become a sort of national speciality. Full bodied and with silky smooth tannins. Really rich and ripe blackberries with a hint of spice on the end.

La Bohème is a blend of Gamay and Syrah from Australia, where Syrah is usually known as Shiraz. But the winemakers have chosen are more French style of winemaking, meaning it's a bit more delicate and restrained as opposed to a full bodied in your face Shiraz. Gamay is a grape most people would know from Beaujolais and is normally used to make wine in a young and fruity style with low tannin. The resulting is a medium bodied wine with a berry, violet and graphite notes.

Walt Pinot Noir is from Germany, so compared to our previous Californian one it's a bit lighter and a tad more acidic due to the cooler climate. It's got aromas of sour cherry and cranberry with a hint of dried herbs. 🌿

Keep swiping for the rest ------>

In the sparkling section we're feeling pink 💕🌸

We have a new pink Pet Nat(natural sparkling wine) from Ancre Hills in Monmouth. Similarly to our previous pet nat it's quite sour which is pretty common for the style and has aromas of quince, white peach and rose petals.

For all the sweet wine lovers we have a sparkling pink Moscato from Emeri. Fully of strawberry and raspberry. It's got a great amount of sweetness for a hot day like today! 🍓

Keep swiping for the orange ---->

Last but certainly not least we've got the Pomone orange wine from Ams Tram Gram. This orange has an almost cidery scrumpy-ness to it and aromas of lemon, apricot and kiwi. 🥝

Which of these are you most excited to try? Or have you tried one already? 🍷

I know we said that meet the staffs were done, but it didn't feel right without our mascot Bella!! 🐶

You'll likely know her from lounging outside Bottle & Barrel and now Gwin Y Môr. She loves to sunbathe and splash around in water. Her favourite quests are those who pet her and those who bring snacks. If you do both she'll be your best friend forever. 🐕

She makes sure to greet guests with a tail wag and a happy face! Bella is sure to cheer up every gloomy morning and rainy afternoon. We couldn't really ask for a better bar dog. ☀️

Next up is Bizzy!

She grew up in Aber and has a real love for the community and nature here. She loves supporting local businesses particularly ones that are foody, arty and have good drinks on the menu. 🎨

Although Bizzy is a textiles girly and fairly new to the barista role, she's learning quickly and is excited to keep going!

"I love a flat white or a dirty chai or if I’m having a night in with friends a bottle of red never goes a miss."
The wine world is also a new avenue for her but Bizzy is ready to get stuck in and learn to give our customers the best possible experience! ❤️

This wraps up our meet the staff series. We hope you enjoyed getting to know all of our fabulous staff and feel more comfortable dropping in for a drink or two! ☕️💕🍷

Next up is Jamie! He moved to Aberystwyth from Norfolk last year to study at Aber Uni. 👨‍🎓

"Over the last 10 years I have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic people who instilled in me a passion for good wine." Jamie says that his favourite part of working in this industry is talking with those who are also passionate about wine, especially when they share their own knowledge with him. 🍷

Next up is Sara!

Sara describes herself as a big coffee drinker, amateur wine enthusiast, and a full-time advocate for slowing down. She's Vietnamese, so coffee is a non-negotiable and something she was born into. Sara cares about everything from origin to cup, and her go-to coffee has always been strong, heavy-bodied, and iced. ☕️

She came to Aberystwyth out of pure curiosity, graduated this summer, and stayed, hoping to craft you something good. Sara spent the last few years brewing and making friends out of strangers. She's very keen to learn to speak about wine the way she already speaks about coffee. 🍷

"I can't wait to give you you all a good cup and an even better reason to slow down. See you soon!" ☀️

Back to our lovely staff - next up is Tash!

Tash is local to Aberystwyth but is currently studying for a BA Fine Art in Plymouth, so you’ll mostly see her over the holidays! 🎨

When she's not working she's usually found reading on the beach in the warmer months, or next to the fire with her dogs in the winter time. My go to coffee is a cappuccino and my favourite wine is a Tempranillo Rioja. 🍷

We've still got a few staff members to go!

Fresh month - Fresh guest roast!

We're saying bye to the Mikan for now and welcoming in our new guest roast Kilimbi. These Rwandan origin beans have been naturally processed, meaning the fruit of the cherry was kept intact while it was sun dried. The resulting coffee has really vibrant and rich flavours. ☀️

Expect notes of chocolate mousse, jammy berries and sherry! Come down and try it in one of our coffees today! ☕️

Next up is Fiona! 🌊

Fiona is an American who came to Aberystwyth as an exchange student in 2019, fell in love with the community, and has stayed ever since. She has worked making and serving coffee for the last two years here as she finishes her PhD – getting to know customers is her favorite part of the job and is a welcome distraction from writing.

Fiona likes the nerdy science behind coffee and wine and always wants to learn more about every element that goes into your cup or glass, from the socio-cultural history of food and drink to the chemistry of temperature and time. 👩‍🔬

When she isn’t writing or working, she can be found running around the hills and coast paths of Aberystwyth. As a firm believer that the best things in life are a pre-run coffee and a post-run drink, she is excited to share this with all of you, and looks forward to being part of the team here at Gwin y Môr! 💕

Next up is Eden, who (alongside Yzzy) assistant manages Gwin Y Môr! 🥳

Eden has been working in cafés for almost ten years, making and drinking lots of coffee during that time. He's always eager to show off whatever new latte art he's been practicing. ☕️

He comes from a family of passionate wine drinkers, who have been very excited to share their love and knowledge with him over the years. Eden's hoping that as he learns more from working at Gwin, he might finally be able to teach his family something for once.

If he's not behind the bar, you'll usually find him parked in the corner, working on his novel. 📚
