This month marks 3 years since we opened the doors of Arabic Flavour✨

What many people don’t see when they walk into our restaurant today is the journey, sacrifice and hardship that went into creating this little space. Before opening, we endured one of the hardest years and a half of our lives through renovations and setbacks that tested us physically, mentally and financially in every possible way.

What was meant to be a 3-month project turned into a year and a half of delays, setbacks, unexpected obstacles and challenges we never imagined facing.

At times it felt as though everything that could go wrong did go wrong, yet somehow we kept finding the strength to continue.🥺

There were long days, sleepless nights, early mornings and countless moments where giving up would have been the easier option. At the same time, we were both working elsewhere just to keep everything going and continue chasing the dream we believed in.

Arabic Flavour was built through sacrifice, resilience and determination. Behind this restaurant is simply a young couple who refused to give up.

I, Ghofran, first started Arabic Flavour simply as a way of employment, without truly understanding how difficult this industry could be. George walked into this exact location on the very first day I opened the restaurant. Months later, when the pressure, financial struggles and mistakes from my inexperience began catching up with me, I asked him for help and advice.

Together, we slowly rebuilt not only the restaurant, but ourselves too. Somewhere during those difficult moments, our love grew as well.❤️

Despite the situation we found ourselves in financially, we decided to take a risk that many people would have considered impossible. We stripped this premises from top to bottom and rebuilt everything from scratch to create the warm, unique little space you see today; a place where everyone can feel welcome and special.

Our vision was always simple:
To create a place where everyone could enjoy beautiful, authentic food, warm hospitality and a special atmosphere - without ever compromising on quality, consistency or care. 💕

By bringing together Greek and Levantine cuisine, Arabic Flavour slowly became something far bigger than we ever imagined. Over time, people from across the UK and beyond began discovering our little restaurant in Aberystwyth, and seeing others connect with what we created has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey!🥰

Even now, some moments still do not feel entirely real to us! From seeing people travel from across the UK to visit our little restaurant, to receiving recognition from people we deeply admire, and recently being honoured with the award for Best World Food Restaurant in Wales 2025.💫

But through every achievement, the thing we remain most grateful for is the support from the people who believed in us from the beginning, the customers who encouraged us, supported us, recommended us and stood by us throughout the journey.🥰♥️

We would also like to thank our dear friend Ashley Pursall, who became a source of support, guidance and comfort during some of our most difficult moments. His encouragement, belief in us and friendship meant far more than words can describe, and for that we will always be grateful.💗

There were many moments when people doubted we would make it through. But resilience carried us forward.💪🏻

So if you are only just discovering Arabic Flavour now, we would love for you to learn more about our story. Every corner of this restaurant carries years of sacrifice, hard work, love and determination.✨

And for everyone who has supported us over the last 3 years, thank you. Truly.🥰♥️

You became part of this journey with us, and we hope to continue creating memories, sharing our food and welcoming you for many more years to come! ❤️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇬🇷 🇱🇧

We are truly honoured and grateful to be featured in this article and to see Arabic Flavour recognised among the places to dine in Aberystwyth 🤍

This town holds a very special place in my heart. When I first arrived in Aberystwyth in 2018, it was my first home in the UK. As a young person with big ambitions, there were moments I felt it might be too small for me. I wondered if I needed something bigger, busier, faster.

Over the years, I visited many cities, Cardiff, Liverpool, Bristol, Chester, London, each with its own energy and opportunities. But no matter where I went, I always felt something pulling me back here.

Aberystwyth has a feeling you can’t quite explain… the calmness of the sea, the quiet streets, the warmth of the people, and the familiar, friendly faces we see every day. It’s more than just a place, it’s a sense of belonging.

Today, I can truly say this town is not just where I live, it’s home. And Arabic Flavour is a reflection of that journey, built with love, community, and connection.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. We wouldn’t be here without you 🙏

Yesterday at Arabic Flavour in Aberystwyth, we were honoured to host a very special celebration for International Women’s Day and the launch of the Hearth Food book, published by Honno Press.

The book shares the stories and memories of 12 wonderful women from Wales and around the world, each connected to beloved recipes and dishes from their childhood and homeland. It was a beautiful event celebrating culture, heritage, and the powerful stories that food carries across generations.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us and helped make the launch such a warm and memorable gathering. It was truly a joy to bring people together around food, stories, and community.

📖 About the Book

Hearth Food, edited by Faaeza Jasdanwalla-Williams and Rebecca Parfitt, is a moving collection of essays and family recipes from Wales and beyond.

Each story explores how food carries memory, identity, resilience, and belonging, from displacement to new beginnings.

Featuring dishes from Tarten Llus and Staffordshire oatcakes to Zimbabwean lamb chops, Moroccan keftas and more, it’s a round-the-world recipe book with heart and bite.

🌍 This Event is Personal

This gathering also marks another milestone, the continued journey of Arabic Flavour.

Behind every small business is a story of hardship, sacrifice, and resilience. The young owners of Arabic Flavour built this space through challenge, uncertainty, and sheer determination. What started as a dream became a kitchen filled with culture, memory, and community.

This book launch reflects exactly what Arabic Flavour stands for, food as identity, food as belonging, food as strength.

👩‍🍳 Chef Ghofran’s Story

Chef Ghofran’s favourite childhood dish is featured in the book, alongside her personal story and the full recipe.

It’s more than just a meal. It’s a memory. A connection to the women who shaped her, to the flavours of her upbringing, and to the journey that eventually led to Arabic Flavour.

If you’d like to discover the story behind that dish, and learn how to recreate it yourself, you’ll have to join us on the day and get your copy of Hearth Food.

✨ Join us for an afternoon of stories, discussion, light snacks, and celebration.

Let’s honour International Women’s Day with food, memory, and community.
