Kaori's Kitchen is the hub of Lifestyle blogger, Kaori King. It is symbolic of the actual kitchen, where the heart beats loudly in the King household and for Kaori and family it is where most of their creativity transforms from ideas into real things...

Primarily thoughts, which turn into words that make up blog posts and recipes and food ideas that develop into meals (which by the way if you're

lucky enough to live locally then several times a week portions of these meals will be available to buy, along with occasional cakes, desserts and healthy bites too). In the actual kitchen... daily there will be music played at an enthusiastic volume, setting a mood to suit what is happening in that moment, either whilst Kaori is buzzing about with the children or in the zone writing or cooking. It is a space often brimming with friends and family who have dropped by. A place that is filled with laughter and love and of course furnished with the handiwork of Kaori's husband, talented craftsman James. Most things that James makes can be bought and he loves a bespoke project so feel free to get in touch via this page if there's some woodwork furnishings that you are looking for and we'll try and post images of some of his work now and again too.

Believe it or not there’s a risotto under that forest of rocket! The youngest has become an increasingly fussy creature when it comes to eating so I’m doing my best to encourage him out of it. Tonight was his turn to pick a new recipe so not being a big meat lover he went for a creamy tomato risotto. It was a winner all around. Cheap as chips too! (I reckon probably around 50p a head). Topped with rocket and manchego as we’re a bit blocked up for cows milk products at the mo and manchego is one of my faves, oh and there’s sooo much cheese leftover from Christmas! Anyway, thought I’d share incase it inspires anyone. Cheap, cheerful and easy made from scratch dinner.

Jumping on the overnight weetabix bandwagon and enjoying it alot more than I thought I would! Chucked in a bit of cinnamon, oat milk and weetabix for the bottom layer, topped with a thin layer of home made berry compote, vanilla soya yoghurt and a mixture of berries. Love being able to grab breakfast and a spoon with no prep on busy school run mornings!

Lately I’ve been trying to remember who I am, what my values are and how I can stay true to them. Helping the war on food waste has long been high on my priority list and I’m proud to say that our council general waste bin is one of those tiny slimline ones and it’s only ever half full come collection day. Still we could do better and I’m forever trying! One of my things is to buy food from local supermarkets that is classed as ‘out of date’ or beyond its ‘best before’. It’s mad what food I buy at massively discounted prices because of this but mostly it’s as fresh as anything else I buy. This week I’ve got a mountain of Pak Choi, Asparagus, apples and pears to get through. This salad is made from all of those ingredients with a tiny bit of leftover Asian style chicken thighs from last night and served with a dressing made from coriander, mint, lime juice, oyster sauce, soy sauce, chilli and honey and sprinkled with some come chopped nuts. Life without chilli, coriander and lime isn’t a life worth living (as far as I’m concerned anyway!).
So what do you do to help fight the food waste battle or do you have other values you’d like to share?

The last three months have been absolutely crazy for us. We moved house and took on a massive renovation project. We lived without a cooker for 6 weeks (which was the worst part for me by the way!!) and have been pushing to get the house in order and ready for our family to come and stay for Christmas. All is ready and every member of the family were coming to stay or over for meals over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day (between 9 and 14 people each day). I’ve filled our massive freezer with food I’d prepared so we could feed everyone like Kings for three days. Pulled pork, Mac n cheese, mince pies and an apple, almond and honey cake for Christmas Eve. Celeriac soup, braised red cabbage, massive cauliflower and broccoli cheese, 24 yorkshires, roast potatoes, gravy made from a roast chicken and Christmas puddings for Christmas Day and two huge fish pies, sticky toffee puddings and brownies for Boxing Day. Then, like the biggest kick in the guts ever, I had two positive lateral flow tests!! I’ve been for a PCR but hold no hope that it will be any different so once again Christmas is cancelled and I’m absolutely devastated. Making phone calls to the family this morning was heart breaking. Tomorrow never seems to come these days. Bah frickin’ humbug! 😔

The massive bonus to not having any blinds or curtains up yet is having these beautiful skies to wake up to. This is the view from my bed! The elements are definitely luring me towards a dip in the sea this morning!

If you’d told me a month ago that I’d be on my hands and knees wire wooling an entire floor three days before moving into what is slowly turning from a building site into a home I’d have been hard pressed to believe you. I’ll have bits of wire in my fingers for the rest of my life but at-least the lounge will look nice! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 Our Cromer home is coming together…

Ready to get messy! Energy truffle batch session is go! The mix is made from cashews, sultanas, dates, orange juice and cacao which I blitzed in a food processor. Now to roll into balls and coat half with raw cacao powder and half with desiccated coconut. Then I’ll open freeze them on trays before bagging them and having healthy energy treats ready to go! (They defrost in about 15 mins and can be carefully eaten from frozen too). I’ve put them out as after dinner truffles before and had no complaints! The children like them as much as sweets or chocolate so we’re definitely onto a winner!

Starting September with a goal to eat a lot more vegan and vegetarian food and kicking off with this, all prep’d ready for tonight. Aubergines brushed in basil oil, stuffed with cherry tomatoes and nestled in a garlic and herb tomato sauce. If we decide to go veggie rather than vegan I may add some mozzarella too…
