It’s more than a place!

Just over 9 months in and it’s proven to us time and time again. It’s not just a place it’s a feeling.

We are now finalists for two Tandridge business awards which is incredible. We are so proud of our team and grateful to everyone who has got us here.

It’s been a lot of hard graft and not sitting back or digging our heads in the sand when things got too hard.

Things often look easy from the outside and even though we have shared some of the hard bits.. they are in no way an accurate depiction of how hard things truly are.

In an ai world.. We could consider pumping out content from ai to make things easier on us but we’re not generic and don’t want to look like everyone else.

This business was built from the heart and through our storytelling.

No ai in sight.

And we will continue to do so. Maybe that means that we don’t show up as much but we have faith in what we do that the right people will find us!

Don’t forget from 27th July, we will be open 7 days a week!

Everyone sees the finished shop. The bricks, the amazing staff, the delicious food and drink, the calm interiors and queus out the door on a busy day.

Nobody saw James and me sitting in the dust at 11pm, asking each other if we’d lost the plot.

Nobody saw the comments telling us it wouldn’t work. Or me crying in the car park because I gave up my job and we had been told that the landlords works has been delayed again.

The mess wasn’t the obstacle. It was the whole thing. Every delay, every sarcastic comment about missing pieces, me spending hours a day learning as much as I could about content and social media so that you could find us!

Nothing just “comes together.” You drag it into existence, one brick at a time, usually while questioning every decision you’ve ever made.

I wanted to finish the week with a little reflection.

Looking back at that plane ride from Spain, we had no idea what we were actually getting ourselves into. We knew we wanted to build something different, but we didn’t know it would become 15,000 people’s “happy place” in less than a year.

It hasn’t always been easy, and things definitely haven’t always gone to plan but seeing this community grow has been the privilege of a lifetime.

Thank you for being part of our story. We are just getting started!

Rating our first 9 months at Brick Stop.

The good, the bad and the very damp!

We’re taking part in and today is all about a mid-year check in. It hasn’t all been easy (cue damp and awning saga..)

But building this community with our incredible team and all of you has been the best decision we ever made!

We’re still a work in progress and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The place we think they need Is the place that is making them misbehave up more!

And when I learnt this, everything changed!

I focused on taking my son to more places that filled up both of our cups and took him to the park and for a walk/run to get the energy out!

We built Brick Stop to be the place you could rely on! A calm space for everyone to enjoy!

Send this to a mum friend who could do with a break!

This will be the perfect oasis during the holidays!

I’ve been sitting on this comment for a while because it stung..

And if you’ve been to visit us and I’ve ever said to you “This is your first time? Oh well look so this time I’m just going to charge you for 2 of you but next time it’s £5 per seat per hour..” You will know that I get it and the cost of things get to me! So much so that the staff have to not let me check people in because I keep giving away things for free..!

On a serious note.. the absolute angel who totally caught me off guard on Sunday who popped in with her dad and son. Who told me off for trying to charge her less and was adamant that she wanted to pay the full price. Thank you! I know this is my business and if I want it to do well, I need to stop doing things like that! Really appreciate that you thought of me and saw I was trying to people please and told me to stop! I’m so grateful for the wonderful people we have come in to Brick Stop!

The truth? Running a space that isn’t a “pack them in” soft play is hard. Out of that £5, a whole pound goes straight to VAT. Then there’s rent, the massive electricity bills, business rates and my amazing staff. I actually pay myself a pity £12k a year which is much less than my full timers make.. just to keep these doors open.

We charge per seat because I want you to actually have a seat! I want you to have a hot coffee and a moment to breathe while your kids are happy and safe. You can spend £6 on a 5-minute fairground ride, or you can have an hour of peace here for a fiver.

We’re not trying to be the cheapest; we’re trying to be the best part of your week. 🧱✨
