Good Afternoon. A bit of a long one apologies! Some sad news today unfortunately! After 30+ years in hospitality, I have finally decided its time to retire from the industry and spend more long overdue family time.
Its not a decision I have made easily, and while its something I had always intended a few years from now, in light of the extreme pressures that have been put on the trade overall (especially this last year!) I have spent many, many, months considering whether the long days/nights required and sacrificing family holidays/time with my children, are actually worth the benefits of having my own business. Unfortunately, with the current climate they no longer are for me.
I will miss seeing all you lovely people every day, and mostly my excellent employees, some of which have been with me every day for many years. I couldn't have asked for a more professional, helpful, and lovely bunch. It has been an honour and privilege to work alongside them.
I do not have a closing date as yet, having only made the absolute final decision to close this weekend, but I aim to continue throughout March and possibly close April. Obviously this is employee dependant, but they have known I was deliberating for some time now so some may understandably have other positions.
Despite closing myself, I do still aim to petition and lobby for the Industry in whatever capacity I can be of help going forward. I have recently realised I am blessed that I am in a position to simply close, but the hospitality industry as a whole is currently under enormous pressure that cannot continue without significant changes. Thankfully it is something that is currently starting to be addressed at local and national levels.
