Hi all, its been brought to our attention (but we knew anyways) that there are several events over the weekend of the 1st June 2024 (the start of Pride month).
There is the "Equality Carnival", which is during the day in Carlisle & will comprise of a parade to celebrate the diverse culture we live in; celebrating race, gender, sexuality, ability, as well as all the other minority communities that we live amongst. Then there is the Big Lunch where everyone can come together to share food and generally have a nice time. Then we have "Its A Q***r Do - " which is on at the Brickyard and offering an alternative event for those people who prefer less cheese with their pop.
Then on Sunday 2 June, Cumbria Pride are holding an event in Carlisle City Centre during the day to promote their event in September for their 15th year, well done for keeping it going people, I know how hard it is. Then Cumbria Pride are holding an event at The Source for those of you who like Kylie.
It's true, we don't talk during the planning but we do communicate when we need to. There is enough hate out there aimed towards the LGBTQ+ community and the other minority communities to deal with, so please embrace this weekend and enjoy all the events, whether you like the little pop princess or not.
All we are trying to do is promote awareness, and have some fun at the same time. Cumbria has come along way since the first Cumbria Pride 15 years ago and now we have loads more events, as volunteers have come together to organise more events, as there is still that need to challenge discrimination and celebrate diversity.
I cannot remember all the of Pride off the top of my head but they include Cumbria Pride, Pride by the harbourside 2024, Barrow Pride, Silloth Pride, Ulverston Pride and Kendal Pride and none of them clash (people have been talking lol). So, which ever events you decide to attend, please make sure you enjoy and donate, as Pride events don't come cheap. So, thank goodness unless we would have to do a lot more fundraising.
You can see updates on all of the Prides websites and check out what PINC LGBT+ Youth - Pride in North Cumbria are doing with the many projects they offer. Hope this clears up any issues. We are all in it together, we just work and volunteer for different organisations across Cumbria, but again well done to all of the people organising events this year. I'm proud to see how far Cumbria has come, px
