🏇 Five hundred years ago, crowds gathered at Carew Castle to watch knights compete.
Did you know medieval jousts often took place along a barrier called the “tilt”? It helped guide riders past each other safely while putting all the focus on precision, timing and courage.
In 1507, Sir Rhys ap Thomas hosted Wales’ last great historic tournament here.
This summer, the horses return.

⚔️ Did You Know? Medieval jousting wasn’t just entertainment… it was elite sport.
By the 1400s, knights trained specifically for tournament combat and points could be won by striking cleanly, breaking a lance, or unhorsing an opponent.
This July, that world returns to Carew Castle.
Armoured knights will thunder down the tilt beneath the castle walls in a live tournament inspired by Carew’s own historic jousting tradition.
